Adams prevails at Willow
Springs Road Race

Curtis Ada ms survived a ho tly-contested race to
win th e Toyo ta Gold Cup Formu la O ne event
during the fifth round of Willow Springs Motorcycle Club actio n at Willow Sp rings in ternation al Raceway.
Walt Dorsch was fastes t off the line follow ed
by Adams in second and Kent Kunitsugu third.
Adams and Dorsch immediatel y started d icin g
for th e lead and they were shor tly join ed by
Kunitsugu. On lap three, the riders continued to
battle for the lead and running thro ug h the tight
turns three and fou r. Kunitsu gu slingsho t his
Yama ha TZ250 up in to the lead . However, on
the ba ck straight , Adams and Dorsch used their
horsepower advantage to p ass Ku nitsugu and
push him back to third.
This set up a pa ttern that contin ued in each
of the next se ven laps. Kunitsu gu wou ld take
the lead in the tight sections on ly to be overtaken on the faster stra ights of th e course by Adams
on his EBC/ Ad a ms Racing-sponsor ed Su zuki
GSX R II OO, a n d Dorsch on h is Honda
CBR900RR.
In th e fina l few laps, Kunitsug u remained in
third wh ile Adams and Dorsch continued th eir
race-long d ice for the lead . As the last lap sla rted , Dorsch was hold ing the lead but was passed
by Adams in turn tw o. Adams ma naged to hold
onto the lead to th e chec kered flag giving him
the win wi th Dorsch taking second and Kunitsugu finis hing third .
" It wa s an incredible race from the green
flag to th e checkered," said Adams on the victorypodium.

com pe te, bo th having su ffered mechanical pro blems with their motorcycles early in the event.
Frank A ragaki slowed in the m idd le of th e
wa rm -u p lap and he was unable to make the
sta rt. Ken t Kunitsu gu a lso had a mechanical
problem in th e first la p and had to sit o ut the
remaind er of the rac e. Rob bie Dowie was the
fastest rid er off the gri d but Micha el Mont oya
scored the win wi th the win followed by Clinton
Whitehouse in seco nd and Karl Lowry in third .
