Wallace waxes 'em at Pagoda Motocross By Dick Archer BIRDSBORO, PA. MAY 14 Some 330 riders braved stormy skies and real m ud co nditions as the District 6 expert point series contin ued at Pagoda Mot orcycle Cl ub's MX facility , but taki ng it all was Rossini Racing Products-backed Ty Wallace, who set his sigh ts on total victory against some ve ry fam iliar competition. Wa llace powered up his highly tu ned RRP machinery to win the l2Sc c Pro/Expe rt , 2S0cc Pro /Ex pert, a n d midday " Da s h for Ca s h " events, de feating fellow nort heastern opponents Barry Carsten, Dag Boyescn, jeff Yentzer, and a host of others. Per haps Walla ce's home track advantage played a role in his dominance but as a long, steady ra in deteriorated the track thr oughout the day, Wallace showed his ability to ha nd le a nyt h ing a nd everyt hing Carsten, Boyesen and mother na ture could throw at him . In the 12Scc event, Carsten p u lled a clean holesh ot with Wallace in second . In just a matt er ofseconds , Walla ce cu t insid e the top bowl tum as Carsten went high outs ide, a nd Wallace shot in to the lead just as the skies opened up with heavy rain. Wallace a nd Carsten we re now on th e gas and pulling away. Yen tzer a nd Dag Boyesen were bu sy in a close ba ttle of their own for third and fourth. By lap six of the eig ht-lap moto, Carsten was right on Wallace's heels. Wallace turned it up another click and pulled away. Carsten chuc ked his goggles and mad e a fina l cha rge, but Walla ce fi n is h ed well ahea d of Carsten for the win. Carsten too k a stro ng sec ~ ond . Boyesen finished third. . A charge from Dag Boyesen in the 2SOcc featu re surprised everyone as he caugh t and passed Ca rsten and Wallace and wo uld ha ve wo n it ha d it not been for misfort une on the last lap in the b a ck s tra ig h t. Ca rsten agai n g ra b be d th e holesh ot with Wallace back in fifth, but afte r one lap Carsten a nd Wallace were side by side as th ey crossed the tab le to p . Wall a ce m ad e hi s move, pass ing Carsten in the back bowl tu m as Boyesen sta rted to charge. By la p four it was Wallace, Carsten and Boyesen all bu t two bike len gths apart for a whi le. Boyescn was hot an d passed. Ca rs ten, a nd th en Wallace to pull into the lead . On the las t lap his bike high-sid ed over a rutted jump, and he went down as Wa llace a nd Carsten went flying by. Ma r k Brader By Meli ssa Threadgill PALMYRA,NY ,MAY 7 Peter Maljy put together a pai r of solid moto finishes to claim the overall win in the 201cc-Open Expert class at Palmyra MX. In the first moto, Maljy got the holeshot and wa s fo ll owed by Paul Austin a nd Rich ard Swarthout. Aus tin was quick ly passed by Swarthout, while Bruce Stratton m oved into fourth followed by Scott Ghidiu, joe Ellington, Brad Ghid iu and Bill Silverole. While Stra tton passed Swarthout, Silverole quickly passed Brad Ghidiu, Elling ton , Scott Ghidi u and Swarthout. Stratton soo n caught up wit h Ma ljy a nd as th ey battled it out , Ellington passed Swarthout. Maljy broke away from Stratton, as did Silverole from Ellington. Silverole then cras hed hard, giving Ellington time to catch and pass th e falle n rider. Silverole quickly got up just in time to pu t pressure on Ellingt on and finally make the pass back. Stratton wa s putting the pressure on Maljy and on the last lap and mad e the pass. In the end, Stratton won followed by Maljy, Silvcrolc, EIIington and Swarthout. In the seco nd moto, Maljy aga in grabbed the lead off the start followed by Au stin, Stratton, Swarthout and Silvero!e. While Austin put the pressure on Maljy, Silverole passed Swart hout. Austin, unable to pass Maljy, fell off the pace and was passed by Stratton an d Silverole. While Maljy and Stra tton had a gru eling battl e, Ellington moved into fifth. Reynard rules Ponca City MX By Malcolm Wood PONCA CITY, OK, MAY 15 Robbie Reynard took home a pair of victories at the third Oklahoma Stale series race he ld at the Ponca Oty MX Park. Reynard looked to be back to his usual blazing fast pace agai n on Ponca City's mega air doubles a nd tripl es. Cliff Palmer was the only rider able to make a race out of the 125 and 250cc Expert classes . Riders in the other classes were purs uing the va lua ble state series points for the Okla homa s ta te series . Dax Hodge pulled a first-moto hol eshot and managed to sta y ahead of joey Baran on the lengthy, jum p-rid d led tra ck for the first mo to victory . They were closely followed acro ss the finish line by Chad She llenberger, Lee LaFon and Robert Scrogum . Moto tw o had Hodge agai n up front at the end of the start ess, but a brake c h e ck and traffic from be h ind spelled disaster as he alo ng w ith several others wa tched the pack disappear in a cloud of dust. Moto two victor and ove ra U winner Shellenberger took adva ntage of the mo tocross d ominoes to mo to r away.
