MAY7 With Spring com es a raking of the leaves. and Mel and Jeff Pion tek did a little raking of their own as they raked in wins in almost every class th at they entered when the AMA District 16 sea son opening hillclimb took place on the Black River Falls hill. Mel Piontek ha s apparently taught .is son Jeff well as the younger Piontek had no problem wi nning the co m petitive 125cc class on h is Honda with a tim e of 5.59 seco n ds. Chad Schmidt tried hard to bea t that time but had to se ttle for second place with a 6.30. No on e co uld co me close to Jeff Piontek's winning time of 4.25 in the 2SOcc class either. No one except Mel Piontek wh o was right on Jeffs heels with a 4.39 to finish secon d . No t to be ou tdone by his son, Mel put on a sh ow of his own with a 5.88 rid e to take the win in th e 200cc class a nd a lso fi nis hed second behind Jan Mytas in Ihe Senior (ove r 40) class. Chuck Neinfeldt put on a crow d-pleasing per- formance with his Harley Davidson Sportster by winning the Open class with the fast time of 3.56 seconds on the steep and rocky 17()'foot hill. That ri de tied wi th 500cc class wi n ner Mike Wood. who also clocked a 3.56, as fastest time of the day. Neinfeld t was favor ed to win the 80 Open. a class for the ten fastest riders of the day , but a spectacu lar crash a t the top of th e hill left him out of the ga me. That wa s OK with Nei nfeld t though, since his Ne koosa, Wisconsin budd y and fellow Harley rider Gary Brost came ou t the winner with a 3.82 Results M IN) JR: 1. Cory Young (y am); Z.Mark (Yam); 3.
