(Left ) The open ing round of Califo rnia Racing Club's 18th annua l Dunestow n Series was held at Los Ange les County Raceway. Trav is Preston (712) topped the 250 Pro class. (Above) Jason McGrath (20) d id his best Jeremy imitation and led the 2S0cc C class from start to finish at Hurricane Hill s MX_ mediate race, leadin g from the first tum to the checkered flag. Shawn O'Brien and jerry Alman had a mote-long batt le for second that lasted until O'Brien overshot a berm wit h just over a lap remaining. Alman came across to finish second with O ' Brie n all over his back fender. Brian Sweany just edged out Loren jenkins for fourt h. Moto t wo was much like the first. Lytle grabbed the early lead and slowly pulled away with his error-free riding style to take the WIn. O'Brien and Alman both worked through traffic to argu e over the ru nner-up positio n agai n. Alma n was doggin g O' Brien in every tum a nd pulled next to him down a series of whoops. O'Brien tried to brake ear ly and cut back un de r Alma n but the move failed as Alman kep t the t hrott le pinned , raili ng t he ou tside berm to move int o second whe re he wou ld stay unt il the finish. jen kins was a close fourt h for fourth overa ll a hea d of C h ris Nei tze l, w ho took 'a respe ctable fifth in his first Intermediate race, Ken Reed nailed the first 2S0cc Interm ed iate holes hot ahead of Scott jo hnson, Lance johnson and Lytle, who was ted little time and made his way to the front after the completion of lap one. Scott Johnso n passed Reed for second , a nd a short time later, D.j. Sweany did the sa me, pushing Rt.'"Cd back a no the r position. Scott Johnson had his front end wash out and Sweany was too close to avoid contact causi ng both riders to go d own and drop to the back of the pack. Reed found himself back in seco nd plac e and being heavily pressured by Lance j ohnson. johnson made the pass on Reed with two laps to go, but there was little he could do about the 2Q-second lead Lytle had by this time. Alman came from the back of the pack to out-drag Reed down the short straight on the final circuit to take third . Lance johnson led Scott johnson, Alman and Lytle in a great four-rider battle for most of the second moto. Lytle slowly mad e his way to the front of the pack for his fourth win of the da y. Scott Johnson's silencer fell apart cau sing him to drop off the pace slightly and let Lance johnson and Alman fight over second in the final laps with Alman making a pass stick on the white flag lap to take a well-deserved second place.
