Australian motocrosser Jeff Leisk holds the poin ts lead after one round in the 1995 Australian Thumpe r National Cha mp ionship. An d after two days the team was confident that they had isolated the reason for their difficulties in the Spanish GP . "It's good to know why we were getting such unexpected results, and had such trouble getting the bike to work well in the race," team manager Garry Taylor said, after the team discovered that a new generation of Michelin tires was ext remely sensitive to small variations in track temperature. "But that wasn't why we booked the tests, and having to spend time working on this new program meant we lost time we'd set aside to test some new 'go-faster' engine parts from the Suzuki factory." nclemen t weather forced the cancellation of the American Final that was to be held in Auburn, California, on May 13, and the AMA has seeded the four riders who will advance to the next round of the 1995 speedway Gra nd Prix qualification series, the Overseas Final in Coventry, England, on June 11. Heavy rains, which have prevented Fast Fridays, Inc. from holding any of its regular season races yet in 1995, conspired to drown the Gold County Fairgrounds track once again, m uch to the chagrin of promoter Ted Scruggs. "This has been a very disappoin ting year for us," Scruggs said. "We tried really hard to ge t the track into shape, but there was no way for us to hold a safe event, so we called it off. "It's a shame because all of the riders who came to the practice day, including Chris Manchester and Charles Errnolenko, said that they thought the track was really good," Scruggs said. "We went way past scraping the bottom of the piggybank to hold this event, and we had everyone's blessing." In the alternative, the AMA has seeded Manchester and Ermolenko along with Mike Faria and Brent Werner - all British Premier League riders, as Werner has recently signed on to ride for the Glasgow Tigers - to contest the next round in Coventry. From there, eight riders and one reserve will advance to the Intercontinental Final scheduled for Elgane, Norway, on August 19. Only four riders and one reserve will advance from the Intercontinental Final to the Grand Prix Challenge in Lonigo, Italy, to be held on October 8. The top eight riders from the Grand Prix Challenge will then contest the 1996 Grand Prix series. . Americans Sam Errnolenko, Greg Hancock and Josh Larsen are already seeded into the 1995 Grand Prix series which is set to begin in Wroclaw, Poland, on May 20 although Larsen has reportedly withdrawn from the first round in order to fu rther recover from the cracked second lumbar vertrebrae that he suffered during a crash at Norstad, Germany, on April 30. Larsen will be replaced by Swedish rider Michael Karlsson, the Grand Prix first reserve. American Billy Hamill was scheduled to be the second reserve rider at Wroclaw and has now been bumped to first reserve.
