Procida M ORENO VALLEY, CA, APR. 15 Matt Bateson put a wire-to-wire first-mete win toge the r wit h a tough second-mote victory to take the overall in the 250cc Beginner class at round three of th e Starwcst Tru ck givea way Series. . Bateson rocketed out of the ga te to lead the pack through th e horseshoe -sh aped first tum. Felix Bcndezu was running second, bu t a fast charging Rusty Setzer quickly moved him back to third . Bendezu lost grou nd to Setzer when he came up sho rt on th e infi eld doub le and di d a big tank -slapper. He was quick to regroup an d able to ho ld off Mike Ralphs and Steven Fox, both of whom had charged to his rear fender. Up front. Bateson extend ed his lead over Setzer, bu t the second -place Suzuki rider was feeling some p ressu re, as Bendezu had closed the ga p a nd w as looking fo r an open ing . Setze r held hi s gro und, how ev e r, slam ming the door on Ben dezu a couple of times in the css os and the Kawasaki pilot dropped back to.finish third . Ralphs and Rocky Harri man rounded out the top five at the finish . In the second mo to, Bateson again got the ho les hot and led the pack through the horseshoe, but this time as he rounded the turn his YZ lost traction . The Yamaha rider spun his bike into the infield and was relegated to the back of the pack. Setzer gained contro l of the lead and began to pull away from seco nd-placed Ralph s. On the second lap, though , Setzer hit neu tral in a corner, and th e la ck of. fo rw ar d m oment u m ind uced a fall-over that cost him the lead . Ha rriman had a tu rn at th e front, but th is was short-lived as he wen t too fa r insi de on the next comer an d becam e en tangled in the ba nners. This didn't matter too mu ch as Bateson was on th e gas and charging har d, passing Ralphs as if he were stan d ing sti ll. Conti nuing his cha rge, Bateson jumped over Setzer on the TOYOTA GOLD CUP ROAD RACE SERIES WILLOW SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY Upcoming races: M ay 20-21 June 17-18 July 15-16 WSMC offers over $300 ,000.00in available contingencies, cash award s, prizes, and drawing prograni.s including a new TOYOTA truck, new Hond a CBR 600F3 and CBR 900RR, full-suspension mountain bike and more!
