APR. 21 Rob Pfetzing and Shawn McConn ell. two riders who go back a long way at Costa Mesa Speed wa y. cap tured the Scratch and Handi cap Mains. respectively. . No t only did they each win a main bu t each cam e aw ay with the second in th eir non- win ride but they ran 1-2 in both main even ts. First to be contested was the Scra tch ma in, cons ide red the richest ride of the night. Along with Pfetzing and McConne ll. Bobby Schwa rtz, Cary Hicks and Brad Oxley made the cut. Pfetzing drew the po le with McConne ll right next to h im . Oxley loaded int o ga te th ree wi th Hicks and Schwa rtz in fou r and five. The gate we nt to Pfetzi ng , wit h Hicks running second and looking for his second win in as many weeks. Schwartz was third with McConnell and Oxle y fourth a nd fifth. McConnell used the low line to get .by Schwartz on lap two, and Oxley followed suit one lap later. In the meantime, McConnell managed to get by H ic ks , and Oxley w e nt right wit h him. Elbows we re everywhere as these guys were close enough to cover w ith a blanket. Pfetzing was in total control and he held McConnell and Ox ley off to take the checker ed flag . Sec ond went to McConnell with Oxle y third, Hicks fourth and Schwartz fifth. In the Handicap main, Matt"Becker from the 2o-yar d line led for two laps before McConnell came from the 40 a nd got unde r h im for th e lead . Pfetzing also came from the 40 and was right there. setting up an almo st ins tant replay of the Scratch main . Ox ley blasted thro ugh traffic from the fifty to pu t himself in the third slot a t the halfway point whi le Becker faded, and the battle was on be tween the three Southern Californ ia regulars as they jockeyed for pos ition . As they came out of turn four head ing for the wh ite flag the thr ee riders came into contact. McCon nell park ed it in the tu m . causing Pfetzing and Oxley tn bang into him and Oxley to go down . Pfetzing wa s abl e to re cover, bu t McConnell was long gone and took the checkered fo r th e win. APR. 9 Cory Baude r returned to his hom e for the first time in '95 and mad e it look easy as he took his Kawasakis to the 125cc. 250cc a nd Combined Intermediate class wins at the Hom Rapids ORV Park in Richland , Washington . Sa u de r , who ret ur ned f rom Texas, was unstoppable as he won all six motos he raced . It all started in the 12Sec class as he led from start to fini sh in both mot os. Su z uk i' s Dan Smith looked to be rid ing Baud er 's pace earl y in the races but faded in the later laps to take second overall wh ile Shawn Cisco took his Kawasaki to a strong third place.
