Saturday's Vintag e/Beginner series saw an un precedented event - a father and son ride-off. Justin Oak ley, 13, and his father Keith, both riding in the Modern Bike Advanced class, were tied most of the day, each end ing up with two points. A ride-off ens ued and Justin edged ou t h is dad by a narrow ma rgin. There were two other close rides Sa turday , wi th ride -offs between Ken Marecak and Paul OlJiges in the Modem Cla ssic Advanced class, and between Mary Rock and Ken Hatch in the Modem Classic Intermediate division. Marecak and Hatch came out on top . Greg Erwin was vic to r io us in the junior Ad vanced cla ss, o n ly h is seco nd ride since moving up to a more difficult Iine . joann Galbreath piloted her Apri lia to first plac e in the Modern Bike Intermed iate divisi on , wh ile Cody Webb rod e his tiny Honda 50 to victory in the ju nior Beginner class with zero points for the da y. On Sunday, event organizer Bill Flewelling, known for his tough loops and challenging sectio ns , once again, gave riders a ru,n for their money, with 10 riders taking DNFs due to bike or body failure . Sections were laced with waterfalls, lots of mud, and we t, slippery rocks , but that didn 't stop Robert Holly from taking the Amateu r class with a great ride and only 41 points.
