"I ran out of ga s abou t a m il e before the check," said Summers. "I was jus t on fumes when 1 got to the check and it was still some d istance from the pits. "I cooled it the last lap, not wanting to blow it," said Davis. Runner-up Sm ith said, " I had it in my mind to keep Ty in sight after Steve (Hatch) let me by at the start. I sort of picked up the pace, but 1 knew that Ty was easing off at the end." Hatch took the checkers in third, followed by Summers and Marshal l.
