With series points battles becoming more and mor e int en se, racers traveled south to one of California's oldest ra cing facili ties, Barona Oaks Raceway. Travis Preston nail ed the start of the first 250cc moto, bu t Lech ien was right there to quickly snatch away the lead. Preston was left to battIe with Manneh and Sp ud Walt ers . Walte rs put the p re ssure on Manneh early and took over the third spot during the opening lap. Walters looked as if he wa s on the move, but he was never a threat for the lead. F As the la p s con ti n ue d , Man ne h found a second wi n d a n d s tarte d to make hi s move, first p icking off Walters and the n go ing a fter Preston . Preston was no mat ch fo r Ma nne h, who slingshotted by to pressure th e lead er. With only a few laps rem a in ing, Manneh was all ove r Lechien, doggin g his every move. "I just rodemy own race and w ait ed fo r a place to make th e p a ss, " sai d Manneh . With tw o la ps rem ain in g , Manneh fou nd the hole he was wa iting for an d moved in to the lead . He took th e wi n ov er Lechi en and Walters. In moto tw o it w as Manneh with th e hol eshot , w hile Lec h ie n qu ickl y displaced Tony Suiek for second . Lechien looked as if he h ad his work cu t out unti l Mann eh caught a ru t and crashe d . Manneh quickly recovere d , but Lechien was already counting hi s cas h. "I' m leaving for Europe tomorrow, and the last th ing m y sponsors wanted was for me to get hurt," said Manneh. " Lu ckily my crash was minor and I didn't get hurt." Ron "The Dogger" Lech ien gave a good account of himself at Sarona Oaks Raceway , bagging overall wins in the 250cc and Vet Pro classes with 2-1 mota scores in each. After a sixth-p lace, first -moto finish, Ant hony Pocorobba was on t he gas a n d took the secon d s po t follo wing Mann eh's misfortune. In the 25+ Pro d ivis ion, Lechien and Ma nne h wen t at it a second tim e. Man neh trailed Lechien during th e en tire fir st m oto until h e m ade a la stlap /las t-tu rn pa ss to take the lead. In the second mot o Manneh led early on, bu t Lech ien roosted hi s way past to take th e lead a nd never looked b ack . Man neh tried to repea t h is pas s attempts of the first moto, bu t Lech ien rode a strong race to hold on. The 125cc Pro action saw Walters ride two impressive motos to 'ca p tu re the overall. Chri s Wheele r led the entire first moto, with Walters trailing in second. In the second ou ting it was all Walters, who pulled the holeshot and rode his own ra ce.
