Tim Smith d idn't let the fact that he was a Beginner racing in the Juni or class bother him , as he went ahead and won the 30-40 C class at O arks Branch Motocross. Smi th took the holcsh ot in mot o one ahead of Dennis Ch ristie and Joseph Wen tworth and -len gth lead by the end moved out to a fou r-bike of the se cond lap. Wen tworth, feeling tha t he could catch Smith, passed Chri stie with two laps. left and set off after the lead er . Wit h th e lap s w ind ing down, Wentworth started to d ose the gap a little, moving to within two bike len gths of Smith, but it was n' t enoug h, as Smith wo n the moto. Wentw ort h surp rised Smith and Chr istie by grabbing the ho leshot to tak e a n early lead in moto two. Smith was not content with the situ ation and ma de his move at the end of lap one, moving from third to first in one cor ne r. This caug ht Wentw orth by surp rise, as he dropped fro m fi rst to four th , g iv ing Sm ith a n insu rmountable lead . While Smith was en joying the ride up fro nt, Christie was stuck battli ng with Michael Griffin for second . The tw o raced fende r-to-fe nde r for the e ntire moto, neve r giving nor gai n ing an inch on e ac h othe r. Christie was wa iti n g fo r Griffin to make a mista ke, bu t it never ha ppe ned, an d Gr iffin took secon d while Chri stie settled for third . The 250cc machines wo und up p laying a big role in the outcome of the 125cc Beginne r class, as the two classes ran together - an d into each other. Robb y Ed lund grabbed the holeshot in moto one with Jason Cross an d Michael Pierce righ t beh ind him. Cross took the lead on lap two and a ppeared to be on his way to an easy win un til he tan gled with a ride r in the 250cc Beginner class and went do wn right befor e the tablet op . Thi s gave th e lead to Ed lu nd, who a lso went down on the next lap in the same place. P ie rce was the be n e fi ciary of Edl u n d' s mishap and assu med the lead , stepping up the pace and leaving the rest of the field to battle for second place. Pierce easily won, Edlund finished seco nd, an d Craig Holt wa s third. Cross wasn' t finished yet, as he whee lied to the holes hot in moto two but lost it in the first tum. going high in the comer while the rest of th e field wen t low, and dropped to th ird . Th e mi shap ag ai n worked ou t to Pier ce's benefit, and he assu med the po int. Pierce would never look ba ck. keeping the en tire field a t bay an d dom inating th e moto for th e wi n and ov era ll vi cto ry. Ed lun d a gain took seco nd, an d Coy Wimberly held onto third .
