"The back part of this track is deep sand, and (it) reminds m e of m y home tra ck at So uthwick, Massachusetts," said Lorusso, winner of the 125cc A division . "I loved it." In the first 12Scc Pro mot o, Lorusso led Joh nson and Tichen or to startthings off, and by lap thr ee it was a three-way race for the lead . "I wanted to race with th ose guys, but cra sh ed three tim es," said Tichen or, who finished fourth. Loru sso added, "Johnson an d I wer e sw app ing the lead at the end. I finally d oubl ed be side h im , go t in si d e and pushed .h im ou t of the line to ta ke the win." Johns on p aced moto tw o, extendi ng h is le ad ov er Skaggs. He refused to let off on the big tabletop whe n I tried to pass him." The first 2S0cc Pro moto opened with Gene Na ume c at the point, and Tiche no r right behind. " It felt great out front, but my arms pum ped and I let Ticheno r by on lap thr ee," said Naum ec. Johnson moved by Naumec on lap six and reeled in Tichenor. "As soon as I caugh t up to Tichenor he picked up the pace:' said Johnson . "I'm trying to make the top th ree in every race and I didn't wa n t to risk a charge." "Jo h nson w as rid ing rea lly w ell ," said Tiche nor. "I pu shed hard when he ca me up an d I didn' t make any m istakes." The rrioto ended wi th Tichenor, Johnson, and Curry placing. Kenn y Yoho blas ted the second- moto start, but Johnson pick ed him off before lap two. Curry moved int o second on lap thr ee, but started cra mping up an d was di splaced by Tichenor on lap six. Tiche no r wa s a strai ghtaw ay down, but closed when Johnson lost momentum in the wh oops . When the leader missed a berm , Tichenor got around. Joh n son kept th e pressure o n a n d made his playwith two laps left. "Johnson came back at me and I don't know where I found the strength to hold him off," said Tichenor, who proved up to the task. The best m ini race of the we eken d was in the Supermini class. Shae Bentley wo n th e fir st moto a n d Ric k y Carmichael the second, but the overall came down to a las t-lap duel betwee n Jeff Pastr ana and Ernesto Fonseca.
