After competi ng in a lmost a ll the Timoniu m indoor short track eve nts for the past 19 years, Dann y Reichert too k the checkered flag first to win his final race in the 250cc class at the Maryland facility. Wh ile Reic h e rt won th e ra ce, he fini sh ed thi rd behind Larry Swee ten an d Gary Clark in th e final poin t standi ngs . Reiche rt jumped in fro nt of Ga ry C la rk , Larry Swee ten an d Tom Majeski at the sta rt of the main and pulled away, while Sweeten got by Cla rk on the four th lap, with Majes ki sneaking by also. Sweeten and Maje ski sta yed close to one another. but neither rider could ca tch Reichert , wh o took the checkered flag. With third -placed Majeski as a cu shion, Sweeten's second -place finis h was eno ug h to ed ge Cla rk for th e cla ss title by one point With the excepti on of Jake Johnson's win in the SOce class, all the other winners also took their class point title. WA.jAN.I Chris Fitz hu gh a nd Rex Fisher brough t in the new yea r with a bang in a batt le for top mon ey in the Open Pro class at the next-to-last race of the indoor short track series at the Oark County Fairground s. Fitzhugh wo n the heated O pe n Pro bat tle an d added a win in the 30+ fina l to card one of two do ub le class victories for the day. The other wen t to Beau Brown, winner of the 80 and 12Sce A d asses. In the 30+ A ma in , Ya maha rider' Steve Fruczlnski, one of a hoard of Seattle-area riders to come south, took an early lead , but the Rotaxmoun t! d Fitz hug h carved throu gh tr a ffi c to overta ke Fruczinski and go o n to ta ke a win. Fru czin ski held on for second, while Triumph rider Dan Dickinson , Steve Ha ug and Ken ny McCmn trailed. Fitz h ug h n e w to th e head o f the fie ld in Open Pro action an d was never headed. Fisher' used a variety of different lines in an attempt to find a wa y arou nd Fitzhu gh. but Fitzu gh wo uld not be denied in his quest for a sweep of the heat race a nd ma in ev ents. Fisher fini sh ed a very close s e co n d , while Ha ug , Fruczi ns ki a nd McCann followed . Brown won th e BOce A main d espite h is tou ghest com pe titio n yet in the series. Hondamounted Ch ris WilitC gave Brown fits in th e 80 and 125cc classes, but Brown ca me ou t on top each tim e. In the BOcc cla ss, bo th Brown a nd Waite rece ived the white flag twice and pulled. off a lap too soo n. Once they realized tha t the rare wasn 't over, it was a shootout to the finish . Brown wo n by a wheel. Another gr ea t perfo rmance was put in by Honda-mo unted Allen Mori nville, who wo n the Open A main with the day' s biggest lead.
