Clark cranks at San Jose Barn Burner Short Track, By BlII Spencer SAN JOSE, CA, DEC. 17 Sammy Cl ark capt ured the highl y prized PeeWee Novice class victory at round fou r ·of the Bam' Burn er Series at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Clark scored the win when Rod Spencer Jr. bailed, giving up threespots. The junior member of the Spencer clan had a substantial lead until crashing all by hi mself and letting Clark , Chris Touchatt and Trevor Doniak by for the trophy spots while Eric Carrillo continued to dominate' the PeeWee Exper t class. Gary Plattje wheelied to the 100ce Stock Novice class win over Kelly Bennett and Roy Rose wh ile Troy DeHerrera easily won the Expert portion over Mark Corsetti an d Jason M urrell . America's Funni est Videos missed an opportu nity when the top th ree rid ers in the 100cc Novice Modi fied classall crashed in the last corner of the last lap. Jesse Van Kat Tony Roseand Ti m H odge all gathered themselves and their bikes up at about the same time and fini shed in the same order they crashed . Derek Overkamp timed his pass of Paul Ungars perfectly for the 100ee Junior Modified class win, but only after Bill y Martins got in the leader 's way after a fall. Ungars hesitated just a bi t too long and Overkamp pounced for the wi n, while Ungars continues to lead the points. The course that includ ed the infamous Godzilla hill was in great shape consideri ng the two days of ra in, but the parking lot was a m uddy mess that kept at least 50 ri ders from enteri ng the facili ty. Los Alt os Dirt Bik e rid er M ark Keeling was the winner of the first hour race for minis and 125s, Joe Bruce. on board a San Jose Yamahasponsored YZ125, crashed at least five times before bowi ng out after leading the early laps, while Jeff Brownlee wa s second over Kev in Wise, Phil Scott and Oliver Souza. Ricky Gonzales was the bravest of the kid s, wi nning the SOcc portion on his KX with seven laps complete. Shawn Ochoa wassecond . The first Veteran race, which had some 55 entries, went to former 0.36 champ Dave Wood, who led all 14 laps. Scott Link was second on the first lap, but was replaced by Shawn Feeling for the next five lap s before Alan Tho mason took the position to complete the 16-lap affair, Fee ling held on for third over Link. Another class w ith ove r 50 en tries was the 250c class, where Tyson Vohland took the win c and then promptl y declared his retirement. ' The forme r mini whiz and Nationa lly and Internati onally ranked M Xer diced with Jesse Ochoa and David Duart e before pulling away for the win, while Joe Bruce recovered enough from his first race to take second . Duarte w as third, while form er speed w ay ace Ochoa was fourth over Mark Kerling and Pete Piantanida.
