Goodman grabs one at Rockford go the top five were Goodman, Gaddis, Palmer, Ped erson and Curry. Gad d is quickly remounted but the checkered flag came out before he had a chance to make any pa sses. Goodma n took the win followed by Palmer in seco nd. Saturday' s main event started looking like a repeat of Friday's with Goo d m a n g ra bb ing the h olesho t a head of Ga ddis, but Gaddis set a qu ick pace and pulled away wit h speed, leaving Goo d man to hol d off Ped erson a nd Bue h l. Brian Deegan shot off the line in the 250cc main eve nt, bu t Gad d is set sigh ts on Deegan. Alth oug h Billy Whitley took cha rge from the start of Frida y's l25cc main, he was only able to hold off Gaddis for one lap until Gaddis skim med the wh oop s an d took the lead. Junior Jackson had his hands full staying in front of Jaso n Upshaw, Goodman, Chad Pederson and Gre g Rand attack. Gaddis began to put re a l es t a te b e tw ee n h is Tea m Green / Sp litFire / Pro circuit-sponsored bike and Whi tley'S. By the halfway flags Gaddis ha d a 10-second lead over th e rest of the field and wa s running into lapped traffic. Cliff Palmer pa ssed rid er after rid er each lap, always going through the rough whoo ps like a rock ski p ping on wa ter. Mid way throu gh the race Palmer h ad passed several riders, but a major get-off in the whoo ps with only two laps to go left him unable to finish . Rand and Goodman faded a bit towards the end of the race allowing Buehl oppo rtuni ties to pass. Gaddi s w heelie d acro ss th e fini s h line for the win wit h Whitley in seco nd . Ped erson was close b eh in d in third . Comi ng in behind several lapped rid ers we re Bueh l and Jackson to round ou t the top five positions. Goodman was in great form in the 250cc class as he rocketed off the sta rt and never look ed back. Bue hl, Sh aw n Morgan, Jeff Cu rr y and Upsha w we re close behind but Goodman had a clea r course in front of him while the rest of the field did battl e. The eve nt was the second of a fourrace in ters ta te con test, and 100 entries co mpete d for th e op po rtu nity to ta ke home the Cal-Zona Cup. Sunny skies com plemented a field of p erfe ct race co nd it io ns p ro vid e d by Roger Jo nes o f Thrashe rland and th e staff from CMC. The Arizo na club raffled off a raceready CZ 250cc rnotocrosser do na ted by Arizon a Motor cycle Sales, and a vintage trivia con tes t ke pt con versation livel y for prizes, also cou rtesy of AMS.
