with fire in his eyes as he grabbed the holeshot,
giv in g himse lf a couple-bik e-length lead on
Erickson and the pack. Erickson was on the gas
and quickly closed the gap on the Honda rid er.
Erickso n went for the pa ss but grabbed a little
too much thro ttle and almost sp un a 360 in the
bo w l comer, savin g it at the very last moment.
This gave De Young a bit of breathing room. bu t
Erickso n wa s riding the wheels off his Suzuki
an d once again closed to DeYoung's rear fender.
De Young's Honda defmitely had a power
ed ge on the RM of Erickson, and the leader was
holding the inside line in every corner, but
Erickson was determined and began to stick a
wheel in on DeYoung at every chance until he
charged too hard into a sha rp right-hander and
went down. He remounted befo re anyone else
co uld get by but the dama ge was done and now
DeYoung had a huge lead. DeYo u ng was in
cruise mod e and held on all the way to the
checkered flag for the w in . Erickson fin ished
se con d and Ba ncroft-D eYoung made a vocal
along w ith a physical pass on Stavana late in the
mo to to take home third.

Spencer hot atBarn Burner ST
By Bill Spencer
SAN JOSE, CA, NOV. 12
Rod Spencer continued his winning ways by
sna rin g the Pro class victory in round two of the
Bam Burner series at the San Jose Fairgrounds
Speedway.
It seems like it was only 20 years ago that
Spencer was winning the lOOcc Sportsman event
on the Cancilla Hodakas that propelled him to a
National ranking, and it was.
Brett Landes was seco nd once again, but it
was a brawl all the way in the 2o-Iapper that
sa w 12 riders out of the 23 entrants qualify.
Spencer had the pole and was gone from the
start, but Landes was stalled in the first comer
when young Sammy Sabedra had troubles with
the surface in this his first pro main event. Landes used the outside to make a great pass for
seco nd wi th one lap left.
Pau l lwanaga and Brad Spencer got together
on the next lap, and Spencer thou ght it was on
purpose, while Iwa naga thought tha t Brad was a
bi t out of shape and was caught up in the ban ging. The next comer saw Brad use Iwana ga for
the proverbial berm shot into the hay bales, but
both rid ers recovered to finis h thi rd and fifth,
resp ec t ivel y, with Troy DeH errera bein g the
meat in the sand wich via his fou rth -place finish.
- Sammy Clark and Rod Spencer had a great
race in the Pee Wee Beginner di vision, w ith
Clark ta kin g the top honors . Both ri ders w ill
mov e up to a higher class in the next round.
Chris Canepa con tinued to be the best of the
80cc kids, winnin g over Brad Spe nce r Jr . a nd
Patrick Patterson, while Troy DeHerrera got a
win in the 100cc Expe rt stock class over Mark
Corsetti and Gordon Rud y.
