VANCOUVER. WA. NOV. 13
Na tiona lly ran ked AMA Experts Rex FIS and
her
Ch ris Fitzhu gh made ra re appearan ces a t the
Clark County Fairgrounds Ind oor Short Track
race, but instead of fmishing 1-2 in the Open Pro
main as mo st anti cipated, it was Ya ma h amounted Ste v e Haug a nd Rota x ri der Jos h
Curry clashin g for the first-place money.
Fisher, the Na tional number-12-plate holder,
had his woes begin in the Pro preliminaries, as
h is Rota x refused to start. Borrowing a Bultaco
Astro, Fisher finished third to Seattle-area riders
Haug and Fitzhu gh in his heat . In the Open Pro
main, Haug h ooked up best and wa s nev er
headed. Fitzhugh made a three- lap run at him
until unload ing while try ing to sneak a wheel
underneath Hau g. Fish er was next to cha llenge
Haug on ly to slide out himself. Th is all ow ed
Curry to se ttle into second and challenge Haug
for the victory but Haug was never headed.
. The day wasn 't a total washout for Fitzhugh,
thou gh , as the Na tional number-51-plate hold er
won the 30+ A main . Fitzhugh also got revenge
on teammate Hau g. as Fitzhugh got the jump on
th e pa ck at th e sta rt and fended off ea ch of
Haug's rallies. The two Expert rid ers put on a
great sh ow, taki ng the first and second spots
while Kenny McCann made it a Yamaha sweep
of the top three .
Honda-mounted Joe Lenz , another new comer to the series, rode spectacularly all day, winning the 250cc c1ass heat race and backin g it up
with an imp ressive win in the main event Dregon's Rick Hill pushed Lenz in the earl y portions o f the I O-lap fina l, but each tim e Lenz
would stretch out his lead , whi ch he ma intain ed
to the checkered flag. Hill finished second while
a battl e for third between Tim Ricketts Sr. and
Dan Dickson went Ricketts ' way.
Kawasa ki rid er Beau Brown, one of th e
na tion 's top SOcc rid ers , continu ed h is Northwest do mina tion of the 80cc ranks , picking up a
heat race win over felJow KX rid er Sean Light
and following it up with a main event victory .
