American Italjet, Inc. is planning to give a new Italjet Buster to the overall PeeWee class champion at the Florida Mini Road America U.S.GP "imminent" O n Thursday, November 10th, a meeting took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, involving Jim Haynes, president of Elkhart Lake's Road America , and other board members, Carmelo Ezpeleta, marketing director of Dorna, Dennis Noyes, president of GP Promotions and Kenny Roberts regarding the location of next year's U.S. 500cc Road Race GP. At the conclusion of the meeting, the general agreement was that the U'S, GP, for many years held in Monterey, California, at Laguna Seca Raceway, will be held at Road America on August 6 and again in 1996 on a yet-to-be-determined date. According to Noyes, the agreement has not been signed "but looks imminent." "If there had been any way to keep the event in Laguna Seca we would have done so," said Noyes. "Both Kenny Roberts and Wayne Rainey live in the area and they certainly made it clear that if they had their "'drethers" the U.s. GP would stay in Laguna Seca, but we were told by SCRAMP (Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula) that there was no way they could restructure the deal in such a wa'y that our risk would be greatly reduced. If Monterey County wants to get their GP back and can help SCRAMP become competitive, we'll listen to any offer they make. It looks like 0\ we'll be in Wisconsin for at least two years, but if the right offer came along from ~ SCRAMP and Monterey County we'd ask the FIM for authorization to hold an additional Grand Prix at Laguna Seca under the title of Grand Prix of the Americas, just as we run a second GP in Spain under the title of European Grand Prix. Kenny Roberts has said from the beginning that the United States is big enough for two Grand Prix events and we agree with that, but the U.S. GP, providing there are no last -minute problems, will be at Road America for at least the next two years and probably will continue for some time after that." The Road America event will still be promoted by Dorna in association with KR Sports Promotion Corp. The Monterey Herald recently published that the amount of income Monterey County will lose by not hosting the United States Motorcycle Grand Prix is estimated at $30 million. et. LaRocco .crowned King of Berc . ea m Kawasaki's Mike LaRocco (right) was crowned King of Bercy after three nights of racing in France's Bercy Stadium. The reigning 250cc National Champion posted consistent 2-2-1 finishes to earn the title and dethrone defending King of Bercy Jeremy McGrath, who turned in a 1-3-12 tally. Team Honda/1-800-COLLECT's McGrath rediscovered his fast-starting technique, but still only won one of the three races. McGrath established a healthy lead earl y in Frida y's main, but the race was halted on the four th lap by a horrendous crash tha t in volved Doug Henry, Larry Ward and LaRocco. Henry was knocked unconscious, Ward's Noleen Yamaha was left hanging from the stadium wall, and LaRocco 's Kawasaki had a smashed radiator. The race was rest arted 10 m inutes later, and McGrath again established a healthy 10-second lead . The twotime Supercross Champion's lead shrunk at the fin- . ish, however, as both Frederick Vialle and Yves Demaria blocked McGrath as he was lapping them. laRocco closed in and finished a close second. Suzuki's Jimmy Button was third. . McGrath holeshot again on Saturday, but was passed by Henry and laRocco. The three ran in tight formation, but the race was stopped and called at 18 laps when Button crashed hard and lay in the middle of the track. Henry was the leader when the red flag came out, and was declared the winner over laRocco and McGrath. Ward was the early leader on Sunday night, but McGrath ran him down and looked like he was on his way to victory. It was not to be, though, as clutch problems dropped him to an eventual 12th. laRocco made a late-race pass on Ward for the win, while Henry moved up to third after a so-so start. With only one round of the FIM World Championship Supercross Series remaining - the Tokyo Supercross - McGrath holds a slim one-point lead over laRocco, 73-72. Henry is third with 65. .
