Gay lord won out momentarily for second , as Roth took the white flag, but Cuff snea ked past Gaylord ag ain through the short chute. Going in to th e last switchback, Roth and Cuff were sp lit by a lapped rider. Roth held the best inside line, w inning the final moto over Cuff - who took the overall victory - by a slim margin. Buzaloki lSuz~ .Komer KO's Moreland Trial By Don Allis MORELAND, NY, ocr.23 Mike Komer went on to a convincing win in the last trials at the Moreland facility for the 1994 season over George Brinkwart with a score of 38 points to Brinkwart's 66 points. Brinkwart and two other competitors, Dave Karst and Bob Poringer, all reported to their first section wearing leisure suits and ties . They were a "treat" to watch ride .with such appa rel on , but it was Komer who was using his "tri cks" to win the class: Meanwhile, Mark Buczkowski was b usy carving out first place in the Ad va nced class over Matt Hughson with a sco re of 45 points to 99 points. Section three was a cha llenging section for the top classes. The section started with some 3to 4-inc h-diameter logs stra tegically placed as a w~rm-u p for what was to come. After making a couple of tight turns, the riders had to jump a 14- to 16-inch-diameter log that was abou t 16 in ches off the ground, then hop in a tight area, over so me more strategica lly placed log s, and out the exit. Dana Guest won the lnterm edia te cJass with 81 points. Clo se behind wa s Rog er All is a nd Cha rlie Camin who both finished with 87 points. Allis won the tie-breaker with two more cleans than CaminoCamin's ch ances for a w in were hurt with his 11 poin ts for a time penal ty. Senio r A class winner was one of the three bes t-d ressed riders of the da y. Bob Foring er "sca red" up a total of 53 points to win over the last of the bestd ressed ri ders o f the day, Dave Karst, w ho d ropped a total of 67 points for the d ay. The Novice class winner was John Pileski over Gord an Kombau with 66 poin ts to 84 poin ts. Section nine started with a sweepi ng righthand tum through a mud bog, up a sligh t hill, a sharp left -hand tum through two trees, more mud turns and then onto a side hiD to the exit. As the day progressed, the m ud settled and became possible to ride, b ut the s ide hill had become very slippery wi th everyone tracking mud on it. Many Novice rid ers failed on the sid e hiD. Senior class winner was Robert Logue with 39 poi nts , Super Senior was won by Phil Ashmore wit h 79 points. Guard had a three-point lead over Webster on the first loop, then held a slim two-point lead o ver DeArmond aft er two loops. Gu ard then buckled down to tum in a one-point loop for the win. Belgian rid er Oliver Clamagirand took the Expert class with a zero for the day over Tom Hamann, wh o recently returned to Cali forni a a ft er li ving in Hawai i. Plonker President Kent Graham rode three consistent loops to ed ge ou t Len Brand and Oli Thord arson, 27-30, in Ad vanced A. Brand and T ho rda rso n w ere ti ed with 30 po ints, w ith Brand taking with more cleans. Section one and 10 were dose to the pits and provided great ente rtainm en t for the spectators. Section 10 had giant climbs for the higher classes, who put in so me spectacular rides. Sectio n seven featured tight sandy turns for the lower classes and techni cal lines and large steps for the higher classes . All sections were rideable, shying away from the dangerous side. .,.
