Neilander notorious at Dade City Motocross By Kyle Myers DADE CITY, Fl.,OCT. 16 Some 330 riders compe ted at round five of the AMA /Worldsp orts Horida Gold Cup Series at Dade City Raceway where jeff Neilander used 3-1 finishes to score the overall win in the 250cc Bdivision. In the first moto, jarrett Tipping shot into the lead, w ith Kenny jones, Brya n Abel, Rya n McNeal and Kyle Kopachik in tow . Neiland er, who started around seve nt h, mo v ed by Kopachik on the first circuit to take over fifth . Tipping then fell, and jones, Abel and Neila nder slipped b y. j ones p icked up t he pace a nd opened up a five-seco nd lead while Abel, Neilander and Tipping batt led for second. Tipping passed Neilan der only to faU once again. jones held on to the moto win ahead of Abel, Neilander, Lee Dushscher and Bobby Moriarty. jones timed the gate perfectly to grab the holeshot in moto two, with Tipping. Kopachik, Neilander and Forrest Butler on his rear fender. Neilander sailed by Kopachik then inherited the lead when Jones and Tip ping feUin the back section . Abel worked his wa y into third and slowly. closed in on the front -runners. Wit h the white flag o ut, Abel made his move and passed Kopachik exiti ng a tum. The Honda-Su zukiKa wasa ki of Oca la/Performance Engi neeringbacked Neila nder crossed the finish line first to take the overall over Abel, Kopachik, Moriaity and Butler. As the lo-rider Pro class left the line, Anthe>ny Pocorobba led the wa y with Gene Naumec a n d Timmy Ferry, follow ing . Ferry quickly passed Naumec and clo sed in on Pocorobba. Fer ry pressured Pocorobba for five laps before diving underneath him in a comer to take the lead. Tom Ferry pulled away from the lo-rider Pr o class to record an easy first·moto win and then held on for another win in moto two to talee the lio n's sha re of the purse on hi s Big Timtuned RM2SO.
