Webe r and h is Honda CR500. The Weber/Murray dice went to the wire with W~ber holding on to second ahead of Murray. Murray and Weber again battled closely in the second moto, this time, however, il was for the lead, as Musgrave ran third. Murray ju mped out to the early lead but his nemesis Weber was right on his tail. Once again, the two riders were never separated b y more than a few bike lengths throughout the moto, and when it was all over, it was Murray leading the way across the finish line . Murray's 3-1 tally gave him the overall win, while Weber went 2-2 for second. Musgrave went 1-3 for third. Becky Kukla piloted her Kawasaki KX80 to the 125cc Beginner class w in . She won both motos over runner-up Scott Rousseau, who holeshot the entire combined 125 / 250 / 500cc class in the second moto an d led for a half lap before auguring his Suzuki and his body into a big mudhole. He recovered in last place, worked his way back up through the pack an d passed third-pla ce finisher Jon Williamson on the last lap to clinch second overall. Yama ha ri de r Tod d McKay was unbea tab le in the 12Sec Vet class. He led every lap of both motos to score the win, while TM-mounted Pete Vetrano locked up second with 3-2 moto finishes. Third went to Jeff Scott. Desert racer Fred Willert us ed the rough Carlsbad course as a tune-u p for n ext m onth' s Baja 1000 . He showed everyone he rides motocross as good he d oes off-road by easily winning both 25+ Intermediate mo tos. Ulf Johansson finished second to Willert via 2-2 moto finishes. l:N CARlSBAD, CA, OCT. 22 onda-mounted Rich Boiteau topped a stro ng field of Vet Juniors during th e final ra ce of the Racing Enterp rises-promoted Vet Cup Series at Carlsbad Raceway . Curt Jablonski grabbed the first-moto holes hot o ver the 21-rider field, but Boiteau quickl y assumed the lead on the opening lap and proceeded to build a strong advantage over the field. Jablonski quickly dropped to eighth. Boileau continued on his tirade, pulling to a 10second cushion over Jeff Eary and last week's winner Ron Stebe. Stebe began to pressure Eary for the runner-up spot at the halfway mark and went on to take it awa y before the field returned to the finish line to begin lap five. Eary then ran into problems in the back section of the course and dropped to sixth at the finish. Up front, Boiteau maintained his earl y moto superiority to score the moto win , followed by Stebe, Tim Crowder, Karl Holmberg and Jeff Gray. Boileau repeated his first -mote d isappearing act in moto two as well, lead- '1 ing the race wi re to wi re. But beh in d him , a strong battle took place for second between Gray, Crowder and Stebe. Crowder hammered on Gray through the middle laps, looking for a place to pass while Stebe waited in the w ings. On lap six, Stebe stepped up the press u re a nd passed both riders, lea ving them to battle for th ird place. Mea nwhile, Greg Hayward entered the thirdplace race, and while Crowder and Gray continued their battle, Hayward slipped Results past the two riders to nail down third at thefinish. VET IR: I .
