FAX (404) 934-3112 Dos Hermanos I'm writing this letter in hopes of setting the record straight regarding Cycle News' editorial treatment of Two Brothers Racing and its relationship to the 1993 . AMA/CCS GTO Endurance. Championship, In the September 17, 1994 coverage of the Unlimited Team Challenge at Road Atlanta (Issue #36, Sept. 28), Henny Ray Abrams opens the article with, in part, "Erion Racing, which had won the 1993 Heavyweight Endurance title under the Two Brothers Racing banner.,;" That statement is wrong and mislead ing, Two Brothers Racing (a corporation which I am and alwa ys have been the sole shareholder) won the title. Kevin Erion, who presumably now owns Erion Racing, was an employee of the TBR corporation during that period of time. As the Team Captain of TBR in 1993, Kevin 'Erion has title to the #1 plate only for 1994 . A very big d ifference fro m having won the championship under some other banner in 1993. There has been a lot of speculation and confusion this year regarding the "breakup" of TBR. It' s really not so confusing at all. Two Brothers Racing, the aftermarket supplier of high-performance exhaust systems and other perfor mance-oriented parts for Honda motorcycles, has simply ceased operation of its in-house race team due to lack of funding, You may think it's not a big deal, but I am immensely proud of TBR's accompli shments on th e race track in years past, and I invested 'heavily to achi eve those goals. As such, I am very sorry to 'see some other ind ividual or company try to steal these accomplishments from Two Brothers Racing or give the impression that Two Brothers Ra cing h as somehow been superseded b y some other company, If you look in AMA's record book toda y or 10 years fro m now the 1993 AMA/CCS GTO Endurance Champions h ip title ho lder is listed as Tw o Brothers Racing. Simpl e enou gh, I think. Long Beach, CA90806. Second class postage paid at Long Beach, CA.Canada Post as talented as Don n Maeda. I really enjoyed getting to know him and havin g him travel with the Trial des Nations team to Andorra. The coverage of the Td N which appeared in the September 14 issue was awesome. I hope to see more trials coverage in future Cycle News issues. Keep up the good job, Ma tt Moore Sap ulpa, OK Filling Stanton's boots In response to Davey Coombs' editorial in the September 14 issue (Racer X, Issue #36), I would like to add that, in m y opinion, a more accurate rendition of Jeff Stanton's career could never be made. Thank you, Davey, for saying what needed to be said. While Jeff was busy working his way to becoming one of the sport's w inningest ri d ers of all time while operating in the shadows of the more popular "stars," many never realized that, in addition to his professional success, he won numerous Ama teur National Championships with much of the same type of notoriety. I first met Jeff in the early '80s when I was writing for AMA District 14 News in Michigan. I watched him grow in the sport and overcome obstacles that defeated other riders of his time who had considerably more "natural" talent. I could go on and on, but I just want to say to Jeff that he's been my hero since the early days of Baja Acres and Mustang Acres, and his dedication and pe rseverance has inspired me to continue racing a t age 48. Who will be the next Jeff Stanton? I can 't say. But, of all the great riders currently on the professiona l circuit, or coming up in the next few years, I don't see another Jeff. Maybe the sport ha s changed to the point where there will never be another one - but I hope not. Thanks, to the on e of the most pr ofessional athletes in the world. . J.R. Canaguier Salinas, CA Oh, Henry This letter is to voice my complete disapproval of your coverage of the fina l round of the 125/250cc Nationals at Steel City (Issue #36, September 14). First, your cover could .not have been more inappropriate. There was no cover shot of champion Doug Henry, nor was there any me ntion of him winning the championship. This was certainly a far cry from the treatment Mike LaRocco received in your August 24 issue. The 125 series was one of the most exciting in a long time, yet your lack of genuine interest did a great disservice to your many local readers. . Doug Henry won his second consecutive championship and overcame many obstacles (including a serio us stomach d isorder and the pressure to repeat) to make it happen. Why then did so much of the article about Henry focus on the so-called "brawl" with Ryan Hughes, and neglect Henry 's true accomplishments? I have gone to watch quite a few NationaIs this year, and I have enjoyed other past articles about the races. Perhaps tha t simply adds to my feeling that Doug Henry just got a raw deal. I think your newspaper owes Doug, his wife Stacey, his mechanic Pete, Team Honda, an d all his friends and fans an apology. Doug worked unbelievably hard for this title, and your paper ought to recognize that hard work and treat him like the champion he has become, Joe Rodi Chi cago, IL The reason Doug Henry wasnotfeatured on the cover of Issue #36 is simple: Cycle News issues thai feature coated-stock cov ers have to be shipped to the printer the week prior to our deadline date. In other words, when the cover was shipped we could not speculate tha: Henry wouldwin thechampionship by putting him on the cover. As for the story, the first five paragraphs of the story are about Henry and his winning of the title. For us to simply ignore the fact that he and Ryan Hughes wrestled around in the middle of the face track during a National would do more of a "disservice" to our readers than not having Henry on the cover...Editor.
