Murp hy took the holeshol in moto one w ith Steve Breedi ng and Shawn White in tow, bu t it d idn 't take long for Murphy to ou tdistance h imself from the rest of the field by stead ily pu lling a w ay an d tak ing the easy w in . Tom my York mad e up for a med iocre start and improved to challenge Breeding for seco nd place wi th only e the whoops s tand ing betwe n him and second place. But over the first se t, Breed ing collid ed w it h York, sending York to th e grou n d a nd allowing Breeding to take the runn er -up honors . York, Garth Ullar ko an d White rounded ou l lhe lop five. In moto two , Murphy went down in the first comer as Ierarny Sahnow, Jam ison Parker and [u stin Phillip s bia sled in to the to p th ree spots and co n tin u ed in tha t orde r for two laps . On lap fou r, York sliced his way past both Parker and then Phillips to take second with Sahn ow scoring the win. York scored the overall via his 3-2 performance while Murphy was second overall, com ing from last to seventh in the 2B-rider d ass . Eleven riders lined up for the openin g 250cc Pro moto. Terry Hamness led off the start, but on the way up the lon g uphill straighl both Ryan H u ffman a n d Jason McC ormick blasled pasl while Don Bisceglia and Ma rv in Waldo held d own fourth and fifth. ' Fo r th e nexl se ve ra l laps Huffman h eld McCorm ick at bay, and with two laps remaining, both rid ers hil hea vy lapped traf fic in the form of the 250cc Intermediales, which we re also on the track. McC ormick mad e his mo v e Ihrough the wh oop s and pull ed alongs ide Hu ffma n as the one-lap flag was shown, bu t that was the closesl he w ould ge t as Huffman took Ihe checkered with McCorm ick a close second. Bisceglia, Waldo and Hamness rounded oul lhe lop five. Molo two fou nd Bisceglia a nd McCormick followi ng Ha mn ess inlo Ihe lead on Ihe sla rl, bu t both ride rs ended up on the gro un d a few turns late r, allowing Hamness 10 get away followed by Jami e Richard son an d Huffma n. Matiasevich no chicken at Starwest Motocross By David Procida MORENO VAu.EY,JULY 27 Jeff Matiasevich took a break from the 125/ 25Occ Nati on als this week and came ou t to show the local Pros how it's don e in the big-time by flying to the 125/ 25Occ Pro/Intermediate c1ass w in. Only one rider even cam e close to cha llenging the former West Coast 125cc Supercross Champion . In moto one, Ma tiasevich pulled a clean holeshol on the pack with Duane Benner roundin g th e tum in sec on d . Behind the lead pair of Pro riders came a pair oflntermediales, Tim Bealty and Tim Sharp, both holding off Pro rider Justin MeMurrich. Sh a r p oul powered Beatty on Ih e back straigh taway and then, a couple o f laps lal er, ' found himself in the number-two position when Benner failed 10 re-appear after following Maliasev ich into the " Phan tom Comer." It seems a rut grabbed Benner's front tire, and he took an un expected soil sample. This pul Sharp inlo second overall and splil the Pro rid ers in to tw o gr oups: Ma tiasevich in the lead gro up and MeMurrich leading the second group. The rest of the molo was a followthe-leader affair with Benner closin g on MeMurrich by moto's end. Moto two was a d ream come tru e for 250cc Intermedia te ride r Sharp , as he w ent head s-up w it h Matiasevich d ow n the sta rt straigh t a nd actually look Ihe lead going int o Ihe back section. But Sharp 's reality check 'came as the pai r rou nd ed the " Ph a ntom Comer." Ma tias evich rail ed the oul sid e lin e, rocke tin g aro un d Ihe Intermediate ride r to take the lead . Benner was running a strong third when Sharp washed oul in the back section; Benner in he rite d se co nd p lace. Vp front, Matiasevic h styled 10 h is second win for the overall victory. Dressner dominates at Palmyra Motocross By Melissa Threadgill PALMYRA,NY,/UL Y24 Ben Dr essner won b oth mot os in th e 125c c Expert class at Palmyra MX for firsl overall. In the first moto, Dressner, on the Goldsp ortbacked Suzuki, gol Ihe ho les hot followe d by Sco tt Gh idu; Ju stin Berg and Billy Silv erole. While Dressner opened up a seven-second lead, Silverole passed Ghidu a nd se t h is s igh ts on Dressner. Wilh identical lap limes, Dressner and Silverole battled it oul. Oressner kept the lead , bUI Silverole pUshed hard. On the last lap , Silverole alm ost caughl Dressner, bUI went do wn , as did his prospects for top spo l in the flrSl molo. Dressner took the win, Silverole took second , and Ghidiu third. In the second moto, Dressner once again got the holeshol, followed closely by Silverole and Ghidiu. Those pos itions would remain the same as they eme rged from Ihe bac k section of the track. Silverole tried hard throughoul the race, bul couldn't pa ss Ores sner and ended up with second . Tro y eark got the Pee Wee holeshot in moto one, followed by Kenn y Nichols and Mike Sick. Early on, Sick passed Nichols and then passed eark to get into first place. Although Clark and Nich ols tried hard, they were relega ted to second and thir d , respecti vely, as Sick took first In th e s eco n d moto, Clark aga in gol the holesh ot, followed by Sick and Nichols. But on the second lap , Sick passed Clark. The top Ihree positions stayed the same, but in the rest of the cla ss th ere w ere loI s of battles , especi a lly between Jeffery Morl and Brandon Meirer for fourth an d fifth. In the end , Meirer took fourth and Mort was fifth. In .th e 125cc Beg inner cla ss, Brian Barb er took first in the first mota an d second in mota two for first overall. Results P/W: 1.
