in moto two. Second overall was Belgian Dirk Geukens (Hon), with countrymen Joel Smets (Ver), Martens and
Danny Theybers (Hon) third through
fifth, respectively.

was nabbed by Dutchman Davey Stri jbos (Suz), with the remaining top five
spots bein g filled out by Italian Alessio
Chiodi (Hon ), Fr enchman Frederic
Vialle (Kaw) and Germ an Peter Beirer

Th ree-time World Champion s Kenny
Roberts and Wayne Rainey were th e
focus of a pre-United States Grand Prix
pre ss confer enc e, he ld at Laguna Seca
Raceway in Monterey, Ca lifornia, on
August 4. Rainey confirmed at the conference that Kenny Roberts Jr. will be
back on board his team's Marlboro. backed Yamaha TZM250 at the Czech
round of the series on August 21.
Roberts Jr. will also be riding in the
250cc U .S. GP, and it is likely th a t
Jimmy Filic e will also be riding in the
GP as a Wild Card entry. Rainey is currently trying to obtain sponsorship for
Filice . "Kenny is packing hi s suitcase
now," Roberts Sr. said. "He'll be doing
a test in Spain and then he'll be racing
in Czecho. He'U definitely be read y for
here (Laguna Seca); he sho uld be 90%
right by then."
It also ap pears certain that Rich Oliver
will be the second 250cc Wild Card
entry for the U.S. GP, with Au stralian
Scott Doohan the onl y 500cc Wil d
Ca rd . Doohan, t he old er b ro th e r of

Micha el Doohan, will ri d e a Sh ell backed Harris Yamaha. As far as the
125cc Wild Ca rd entries go, a decision
has yet to be made on who will get the
two open slots.
