Windham easily topped the 125 and 250cc Stock an d Modified Pro classes, w inning all six mo tos . Andy Boyer (Kaw) wa s the 125cc Stock Intermediate class wi nner, while Shawn Perolio (Kaw) did the honors in the 125cc Modified Interm ed iate class . Billy Akers (Kaw) and Jason Partridge best ed the 250cc Stock an d Mod ifie d In termediate classes, r es p ec ti ve ly . As u sual, Ric k y Ca rm ich ae l (Ka w ) topped the 14-16 year-old Stock, Modifie d and Super Min i cla ss es, w hile Ju s ti n Bu ckelew (Yam) wo n the 12-13 year-old Stock and Mod ified Mini classes. Joh nn y Marley (Yam ) and Travis Pastrana (Suz) split the 0-11 yea r-old Stock a nd Mod ified class wins. Defen d in g champion Jacky Ma rtens (H us), w ho star ted out the day fo ur points behind the Swede, had a disa strous fir st mo to when he was unable to avoid a fallen compatriot. The Belgian remounted last and could only finish 10th, though he was runner-up in moto two. Second overall was Belgian Dirk Geukens (Hon), with countrymen Joel Smets (Ver), Martens and Danny Theybers (Hon) third through fifth, respectively. Frenchman Yves D em ari a (Hon) continued his late-season charge, registering hi s fifth victory in the la st six rounds of th e 250cc World Championship MX Series. H is last win came August 7 in Maracay, Venezuela, where Belgian Marnicq Bervoets (Suz) was second overall. Th ird w ent to South African Greg Albertyn (Suz), with Belgians Werner DeWit (Suz) an d Stefan Everts (Kaw) four th and fifth, respectively. American Bob Moore (Yam ) moved to within jus t four points of clinching the 125cc World MX Championsh ip with a 2-1 win at 'ro und 10 in Swindon, England, August 7. The runner-up position was nabbed by Dutchman Davey Stri jbos (Suz), with the remaining top five spots bein g filled out by Italian Alessio Chiodi (Hon ), Fr enchman Frederic Vialle (Kaw) and Germ an Peter Beirer (Suz), resp ectively. Personell from FMF - one of Moore's sponso rs - were reportedly on h and w it h champion ship Tshirts already pri nte d up . Scott Summers (Hon) won the Thunder Ridge National Hare Scrambles in South Edmeston, New York, August 7. Rodney Smith (Suz) was second ahea d of T om N o rto n (Kaw), Steve Hatch (Su z) and Sc ott Plessinger (KT M). Smith retains the series po ints lead. Lou Gerencer Jr. (H-D) and Rick Soter (BSA) topped the 800 and 540cc classes, r esp ectiv el y, at the N o r ton Sh or es , Michi ga n, invita tio na l r ou n d o f th e N a tio n a l Champ ionship Hillclimb Series, Au gust 7. Harry Schreib er Jr. (H-D) was the ru nner-up in th e 800cc division, followed by Tom Rei ser (HD), Tim Frazie r (BSA) an d M i ck e y Dent (H- D). The 540cc class' top five wer e com p leted by Mi chael D eBusk (BSA), Scott Everett (Tri), Paul Pins onnauIt (Hon) and David Watson (Kaw) . Shaun Kalo s (Hbg) topped round four of the So u nd of Th under Fou r-Stroke Motocross Series in Alba n y, Orego n, August 7. Defending cha mpion G reg Z itt e rkopf (KTM) was se cond , w ith Mike Young (ATK) third, Te rry Fowler (Hbg) four th and Gary Beyers (H bg) fifth. Th ree-time World Champion s Kenny Roberts and Wayne Rainey were th e focus of a pre-United States Grand Prix pre ss confer enc e, he ld at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Ca lifornia, on August 4. Rainey confirmed at the conference that Kenny Roberts Jr. will be back on board his team's Marlboro. backed Yamaha TZM250 at the Czech round of the series on August 21. Roberts Jr. will also be riding in the 250cc U .S. GP, and it is likely th a t Jimmy Filic e will also be riding in the GP as a Wild Card entry. Rainey is currently trying to obtain sponsorship for Filice . "Kenny is packing hi s suitcase now," Roberts Sr. said. "He'll be doing a test in Spain and then he'll be racing in Czecho. He'U definitely be read y for here (Laguna Seca); he sho uld be 90% right by then." It also ap pears certain that Rich Oliver will be the second 250cc Wild Card entry for the U.S. GP, with Au stralian Scott Doohan the onl y 500cc Wil d Ca rd . Doohan, t he old er b ro th e r of 500cc World Championship l ea der Micha el Doohan, will ri d e a Sh ell backed Harris Yamaha. As far as the 125cc Wild Ca rd entries go, a decision has yet to be made on who will get the two open slots.
