on the course all week, no one was more upset than Edmondson. "My bike is set up for a real enduro course - not these motocross sections," he said. "I'm much slower than the other riders. We will see what happens." Silvan's extra practice had paid off, as the Finn was in super form, and had he not made the mistake of starting early, he probably would have secured the title. He won the Lightweight class on the second day, though the Day One win went to Italian Fausto Sco vo lo when Silvan was disqualified . The Husqvama team refused to comment on the controversial extra practice, and Silvan left the course in tears. As expected, Sala played it safe and d idn't win the final roun d . Top Heavywe igh t honors went to former champion Tullio Pellegrinelli who won Day One an d was second on Day Two . Sala was p lease d with second overall and the cha mpionship, saying, "This is my best result ever . I had a very good ye ar. Every thing we nt according to plan." "He is th e best - better' tha n any of th e ot her cha mpions ," said a gracious Pe llegrine lli. The extra practice had proven very effective for the H us kymounted Pellegrin elli. The Farioli KTM team ha d already p roduced one champion in Sala, but it was Mario Rinaldi's win that gave them the most cause for celebration. "He was very unlucky last year, and he has had a good yea r," said team boss Arnaldo Farioli. Rinaldi scored Lightweight FourStroke wins on both days, and his domination of Svenerik Jonsson on Day Two was clear evidence that he was the true champ. Tia inen had won championships before, but this year he was desperate to prove he was a better rider than Fabio Farioli in the Heavyweight Four-Stroke cla ss; he d id it with eas e. Both riders had the extr a week of practice, and Farioli came out ahead by a few seconds on Saturday. But more important was the fact that Tiainen had so many points that he didn't have to ride on Sunday. Champions Edmondson, Sala, Rinaldi and Tiainen will now fo cus their attention on the United States, where they will face-off against the best Americans at the In ternational Six Days Enduro this Sep tember.
