Worl d Championship at the Lake Sugar Tree Motocross Park on August 27-28 in Axton, Virginia. In addition four-strokes will be racing both days, giving racers the opportunity to race in the AMA 4-Stroke National and in four stroke races which uses the White Bros . class structure. Also, the AMA D-13 MX scheduled for that weekend has been cancelled to allow more track time for Vets and four-stroke class racers. According to the Flammini Group, the promoters of the World Championship Superbike Series, Cag iva will join the series in 1996 with their new four-cylinder, four-stroke superbike. The Italian company is currently developing the bike in cooperation with Ferrari. Da ve Roper rode the ex-Renzo Pasolini 350cc, four-cylinder, seven-speed BenelIi to victo ry on July 16-17 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia . It was the bike 's first race since Roper cra shed it during the 1993 Manx Grand Prix. According to the AMA's Hugh Fleming, "The 'Top 50' list for the ISDE (in Tulsa , Oklahoma) will not shrink to anything less than 50." Fleming was referring to a ESPN2 to air U.S. Grand Prix live SPN2 will broadc ast the United States Grand Prix live on September 11, accord ing to a U.S. GP spokesman. The three-and-a-half hour show will feature full coverage of the 125, 250 and 500cc Grands Prix from Laguna Seca Raceway in Mon terey , California. In addition, ESPN will broadcast the race on a delayed basis on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. (pacific Time). The dates for the remaining GPs on ESPN in 1994 are as follows (all times are Pacific): Italian GP (August 2, 6:00 p.m.); French GP (August 4, 10:00 p.m .); British GP (August 16, 6:00 p.m .) and Czechoslovakia (September 6, 6:30 p.m.). Approximately 600 riders are expected to start th is year's event on the John Zink Ranch in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, on September 20-25. Speaking of the ISDE, 19 riders have been invited by the AMA to attend a "training camp" later this month, where the six U.S. World Trophy, four Junior World Trophy and the "high-powered" U.s . Club team riders will be officia lly chosen. The likely candidates for the U.S. Wo rld Trophy team are Steve Hatch, Randy Hawkins, Rodney Smith, Scott Summers, Ty Davis, Jeff Russell, Fred Hoess and Guy Cooper. These are some of the top riders who racked up the fewest amount of "evaluation points" during the already-run Qualifier Series. Evidently, the riders will, among other things, be racing against the clock at this training camp. The bottom line is, "speed" will be of high importance in deciding who makes the U.S. Trophy team this year. Exhibit by .the world famous Philadelphia Museum of Art from Septemb er 25 0\ through November 20. The Morpho will join more than 250 objects of Japanese ..... design, including furniture, housewares and consumer electronics. "Yamaha is proud to have the Morpho II concept motorcycle on displa y a t the Philadelphia Museum of Art," said Bob Starr, Yamaha's Motorsports national communications manager. "The Morpho II represents sta te-of-the-art techno logy and design unequalled in the industry." According to Yamaha, the Morpho was designed by Yamaha to explore the relationship between rider and machine using new technology, shapes and materials. The ~orpho II's design cues are futuristic and extremely aerodynamic, with wings built into the front cowling to reduce or increase wind resistance depending on rider input. Barros has a tw o-year contract with the team, but the second year is an option year which Suzuki can invoke if they are happy with his riding. "Alex will be talkin g with Suzuki very soon, but I don 't see an y problems in him re-sign ing," team manager Garry Taylor said. " It's only a question of us exe rcis ing the option. Th ere a re no negotiations to be held ." With Kevin Sch wantz already signed up for next year, the Lucky Strike Suzuki team is the only 500cc Grand Prix team to have its riders already under contract for 1995. According to reports from Europe, the Aprilia 400cc V-twin will be back in 'action at the Czechoslovakian Grand Prix on August 21. "At Brno we expect to see a vast improvement in the performance of the bike," Aprilia team manager Carlo Pernat said . The bike had suffered mechanical problems in four of the . five 500cc GPs it had entered in 1994. French 500cc Grand Prix rider Marc Ga rcia was fined nearly $2500 for dangerous riding at the British Grand Prix at Donington Park after knocking Brit Jeremy McWilliams off during practice. Garcia had just come out of the pits when he pulled in front of McWilliams, who was at speed. According to local'news reports, driving on famous Da yto n a Beach is being restricted to make the sand safer for protected bab y sea turt les, and that's angering some local residents. Under a new provision effective this month, beach driving will on ly be allowed between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p .m . to give more time for hatchlings to reach the sea and . for volunteers to survey for future nests.
