FAX(310)427~ Kudos to Pike's Peak If y o u 've n e ver experienced Pike 's Pea k, which is held annually on Jul y 4 in Colorado, I can tell you that it 's a beautiful place to witness a race. The event is very cha llenging and I wish to acknowledge the two men respons ible for putting it all together - Bill Broka w . and Sonny Anderson. There is very little money and / or recognition in it for these two, but they do it for the love of the sport. For that I want to say thanks and keep it up. Edd ie Mu lder Na tional #12 Canyon Count ry, CA Godspeed, Tiny For many years Tiny Godel was a fixture of Pro dirt track ra cin g in th e Northwest - turning a wrench on a Triumph, then dwarfing it as he w ould bump start it. He was the man in the pits with Brad Hurst. For m an y years before that it was Randy Scott, Randy Ski ver and Rick Teagarden. H e also helped Mark Williams, Billy Oli ver and Don Dodge. Fo r th e pa st s e ver a l seasons h e helped s p o ns or Dan McDonnell an d the Go d el h ome has a lways b een a favorite race headquarters fo r out-ofstate d irt trackers. Tiny is su rvived by his wife, Mona, and daughter, Weridy . Condol ences can be sent to the Godel famil y a t P.O. Box 937, Woodland, WA 98674. We kn ow Guy ha s a very busy race sched ule and appreciate that he would sacrifice his personal time to come race here w ith us. Th e weekend was a great success wi t h one of th e bigge st race r / s p ect ator turnouts w e ' ve ever h ad . Guy's a ir-time a n tics w ere only surpassed by his off-track time spent with the fans. FMRA would also like to thank Northern River Sport for donating the 1994 Suzuki RM 250 t h a t Guy rode; Wedgewood Resort for dona ting room and board; and Hydraulic Center and A laska 'Pe tr o le u m for track equipment. Again, tha nks for com ing an d good lu ck with your new off-road ra cing career, Guy. You have an open invitation to race under the mid night sun any time you want. Kelley Dolp h in Pres id ent, FM RA North Is le, Alaska Harsh Henny Hol y Harshness Henny ! Nothing like b lasting the backrnarkers of the racing field. What's the p oint of th e article? (Chicanery, Issue #27, Ju ly 13). Don't allow anyone but the ultra fas t on the track? I th ink it would get a little bor. in g . Ma ybe I'm taking y o u r "Chicanery" a bit too literally, but y o u r whining exceeds Paulie's overh eating. And what's with this fascination of Ch ickens, Henny Penny? My good fr iend George Roberts told me you once had a job pushi ng th e eggs back into the chickens and now I believe him. So stick to p ho tog raphy, you chicken fornicato r, an d lea v e th e satirical writing to Carruthers. Scott Kipphut Meriden, cr Charlie Hustler I really enjoyed your "The Men and Machines of the Grand National Series" (Issue #25, June 29). One big problem, though. I believe you made a mistake printing Scott Parker's favorite choice o f m a gazine. This is the filth of the magazine rack . This can do nothing but damage a sport t h a t is trying (a n d deserves) to gain g reater popular acceptance and thus more money for i the skilled athletes/racers. I Many of t he ri ders did not have I their favorite magazine p rinted . Maybe they di dn't answer that particular question. I don't know. Yo u s h ou I . have prin ted Parker's regard less . ld not Erik Burkman Lawai, Hawaii Cropping woes Whoever crops your photos owes an explanation to Alex Criville regarding the photograph on page 16 of the July 13 issue (Issu e #27). I trust the caption over his head was not a commen ta ry on his admirable third-place finish a t the Dutch Grand Prix. Richard Hoffman Plainsboro, New Je rsey I was completely lost as to what Hoffman was talking about, until I spoke with him on the phone. In our photo of the Dutch Grand Prix winner's rostrum celebration, the "en" was cropped f rom the word "Assen" above Criville's head.labeling him as something otherthan the third-placefinisher...Editor.
