Sparks fly at Binghamton MX By Dick Archer BINGHAMTON, NY, /UlY4 Fourth of Jul y fireworks went off at BroomeTioga Sports Center in south-cen tral New York as ro und fo u r of the six round Tucker-Rocky Championshi p Series con tin ued, and the fireworks we ren't in the air. Go ld Spo rt Suzuki-sponso red Ch ris Coleman set off his own expl osives, destroying the wi n ni ng hopes of e ve ryone includ ing series po int lead ers Barry Ca rston a nd Ty Wallace. Co leman en te red three classes, win ni ng all motos in the 125cc and 25+ Expert and finishing third in the 250cc/Open Expert divi sions. Coleman's star-spangled starts proved to be mos t effective, as he holeshot both 125cc motes, In mota one. he rocketed out of the gate a nd blasted well into the lead, leaving the battle for second to Bruce Stratton and Wallace . Stratton chased Wallace down only to fall down himself, but quickl y remounted and reall y pushed hard to catch and pass Wallace on the last lap for a brilliant second-place finish. Moto two sa w an " in co n tro l" Coleman launc h out and a round the first tum and blaze a way . Jeff Yentzer, Gaylon Dickson, Wallace, and Jim Mcilvaine gave it their best, bu t Coleman lit the second stage and was gone. Once again the fight wa s for second . Sparks . flew as Yentze r was able to hold off a cha rgin g Wallace, who had worked his wa y aro und Dickson late in the race. The 25+ Expert motes wer e explosive from the start, leaving the crowd asking, "Who is this guy ?" Coleman once again showed the competition how to dial in a track as he clearly knew the fastest way around . Mota one was a colorful dis play, as Coleman had to fight h is way a round Dickson an d Dag Boyesen, bu t he mad e short wo rk of them and burst on to the win. In mota two, Coleman agai n sea red off the startin g line and int o the lead, as a phalanx of riders includ ing Boyesen, Jim Kap itan , Dickso n, Mcilvaine and Dave Burge r chase d in vain. But nob od y wa s goi ng to catch Co lem an tod a y. Boyesen, Kap itan and Dickson fought it out for .second, third and fourth , resp ectively. Bcyesen 's 3-2 too k second ove rall.
