':VO E IC S: America's weekly motorcycle newspaper Letlersto the editor:' Volume XXXI Unhappy 1 ISDE spectator woes Many off-road enthusiasts will be making the trek to Tulsa , Oklahoma, for the American version of the ISDE. Many of us wonder about spectator information. Many enduros have spectator maps with highlighed observation points. Many of us seek information 'o n s uch things as RV parking and camping, tours, motels and restaurants . This should be availabl e. Are there going to be any admission · fees ? We are all fired up to see the Ame ricans win lots of gold this year. Donnie Glover Manhattan, KS Check out the advertisement on page 53 for more information. Also try calling the organizers of theevent, the Tulsa Trail Riders at 918/446-2431...Editor. Gouged? Why are motorcyclists constantly being gouged at every tu m ? I' m referring in part to the recen t Laguna Seca race. The price of admission, whic h certainly d iscouraged families from attending, was $40 for a one-d ay admission. Al so, can an yo ne tell me why th e Pomona Fairgrounds charges motorcycles for parking? Nowhere els e, a nd I've been to many events in the last 35 years, do they do this . At the road race the charge was $4 for motorcycles and $5 for a uto mobil es. So gue ss w ho loaded six people i n one car and a t te n d ed the dirt track Nation al. Doesn' t anyone w ant to encourage motorcycle use? > Somebody better wake up before the sport of motorcycling narrows d own, like sailboats , to a sport of the very few the very rich. Geo rge Os born e San ta Ana, CA Congrats to Davey Camlin, who rod e the wheels off his bike to w in the DuQuion Mile. Good luck for the rest of the year and bring home more Na tional wins to Illinois . The racing was great, but her e are some questions I fee l need to be answered before I return to the "Magic Mile." On a nice day like that Sunday, why on earth should the program start late? Why can 't the gates be open before 10:00 a.m. ? I like to arrive early, talk to the riders, and get a good p a rki ng spot. Why did I have to p a rk at the fa i rgrounds w he n peop le w ho came later pa rked closer to th e g randstands? I counted four or five places to eat and all we re crowded. At 1:00 p.m. I waited 25 minutes for a hamburger. When I finally orde red, the lady said it would be 10 to 15 minutes befo re any ha mburgers were d one. Wh y not mo re sta nds? The last ques tion really ge ts me. Why can th e st aff or VIPs drink beer in front of the stage in front of all the people when us "race fans " weren't allowed to ha ve beer in our seats? I pa id for my ticket and I followed the rules, b ut that sets a bad example. Some of these questions may sound a little bitchy, but this sport is not in real good shape. We need to enhance the sport. We, the fans, keep this sp ort alive and we can't be treated like kids on a field trip. Kelly Brennan Ginton,IL Love the photos I just wanted to take a minute to offer my applause to Kinney Jones and Mitch Friedman for their spectacul a r actio n photo s fr om the Pomona H a lf Mile (Issue #20, Ma y 25, 1994). Th ey truly caught the spirit and excitement of flat track racing at it s bes t. Of co urse a sweeping cushion track like Pom on a doesn't hurt either. Keep up th e good work and I'll keep eage rly awa iting my next issue. Nick Taylor Baltimore, MD Trick forks? Thanks for a great " fix" every week. I can't imagine w aiting for a monthly publication. But on the front page of the latest iss ue (Issue #22, June 8, 1994) there's a picture of Scott Plessinger winning a cross country even t. It's great to see Scott getting a break finally, bu t it's hardly earth-shattering. The news I want to read about is the most ob vi o us omiss ion within that story. Apparent to all bu t the reporter is the fact that there's a non-standard front suspension on Scott's bike. Was he riding a '95 prototype? I really have a hard time believing and accepting that a professional would omit su ch obvious news and fail your readers. I fee l sure tha t Cycle News will follow up on th is in future issues.
