I followed the ins tallation instructions and sp read open the aluminum triple clamp tha t attaches them to the handlebars . One side wen t right on, bu t the other side broke - p robab ly because I spread it too far. I we nt back to the dealer where I purchased the product and got nowhere. They were rude and not willing to help me. I then called Acerbis directly and talked to a gentleman named Paul. I explained my problem and the next day I had a new part delivered to me by priority mail - no questions asked . I installed the guards and think they are great. I don't know Paul's last name, bu t I'd like to say th an k you and tell Acerbis USA they h av e m a d e a customer for life. Scott Run tzel Oakhurst, CA Paul's last name is Threlkeld...Editor. Lack of concern? An A+? ...Not! I'd rate the safety personnel an d policy a t Lagu na Seca a D-. I was one of many spectators who w itnessed wha t looked like a serious lack of co ncern or d irection after a multi-bike crash in tu m four d uring the AMA U.s. Su perb ike National on May 22. One bike blew up, dumped oil leading into tu m fou r and crashed. Within a few seconds, three more bikes slid there and cras hed. On e rid er failed to get up. Really, guys, four b ikes down, an injured rider, and oil in the tum. Isn 't that enough to red flag the race? Apparen tly not. Pro tec tive ha y bales were p laced in front of the downed rider, a caution flag and "oil on the track" flag were being wa ved by two cornerworkers, but they were almost ou t of vision' of the riders approaching tu m four. Almost a full lap later, a fifth bike hi t the oil and crashed so hard we could actually hear his helmet hit the ground, and he la id there totally inert. The only fortunate thing so far is th a t the fifth rider mi ssed th e sedan that some b ra in -d ea d person parked to protect the first do wned rider, but in line of oncoming riders sliding off the tum . . Time was becom ing noticeably longer, but at least the race was fina lly stopped. Still no a m bulance. Th e firs t inju red rider was driven off in a tru ck after he was able to stand. The other injured rider, who still ha d not moved, was finally loaded into a lat e-arriv in g ambulance. With all the excellent, obvi ously prep lanne d , e ffi ci en t control by safety workers at today's racing facilities, that whi ch I saw at Laguna Seca in tum four was severely lacking. It was completely unnecessary for the last rider to slide off the tum. Donald W. Simone Fres no, CA Getting off one's duff I'm forwarding this belated thank you for the extended and great coverage of tri als th at you 've been d oing since the beginning of this year. You have always been one o f the few p eriodicals that have offered coverage of our sport, but lately the coverage has been exceptional - and I for one w ish to ge t of f my tail and let you kn ow it's appreciated. In the U.S., we just ha ven 't been able to ge t upto-the-minute new s p erta in in g to the World Championship rou nds other tha n a quick FAX fro m the factories, giving the first 10 places. I am, the refore, cha llenging the rest of the trials com munity to get off their duffs, as I d id, an d let Cycle News kn ow tha t it's appreci a te d. You trials buffs have always complain ed we d on 't get enough coverage in the "big" motor cycle media. Well, we're getting grea t cove rage in th e b est up-to-the-minute motorcycle new s in the world, so get off your bu ns and drop 'em a note. Bob Miller Sa n Luis Obispo, CA Viva Las Vegas What is the easiest way to catch a bu s to Las Vegas on the morning of Saturday, June II ? Th e supercross with the "Super-Jum p" would be worth the trip. Are there any tou rs go ing to the race? Cycle News is grea t - ke ep up th e good work. And Team Smit ty does not suck. Tom Marshall Canyon Co untry, CA We haven 't heard of any organized tours heading to Las Vegas, but buses do depart for "Sin City " on a dat1y basis...Editor. Chicanery fan I just finished reading "Chicanery" in th e May 25 issue of Cycle News. Give Abrams a raise. Jeff Shults Ellensb urg, WA No...Editor. GuffaWing I laughed m y ass off fo r at least five minu tes while reading Henry Ray Abrams' Chicanery about trying to buy a Ducati 955. The only other source of such guffawing on my part com es from the ep isodic diary of Team Sm itty. If your other readers don't fall ov er laughing from that believable article, maybe th ey aren 't 50-something with 3D-pl us years of riding and /or racing bik es like me. But, on a more serious not e, who said life is fair? Randy Dawes Yuba City, CA Wh atever you Henry...Editor. do, do n 't call him Letters to the editor s hould be sent to Voices, Cycle Ne ws, P.O.
