Deliverance!at Loretta Lynn Dual Sport By Davey Coombs HURRICANE MIUS IN, APR. 17·18 . The th ird annual Cycle News / AMA /Loretta Lynn National Dual Sport Run took place at and aroun d Loretta Lynn's Ranch with great weather, challeng ing tr ails and th e u sual d ose o f Sou thern hosp itality. Held on a sunny sp ring weekend, the event consisted of miles upon miles of dynamic riding. The riders enjoyed challenging trails, scenic twotrack country roads and the necessa ry degree of paved access road s . The total m ileage for the event, including resets, measured approximately 160 miles. The eve n t was initially jeo pa rdized by a wet-weather fron t that drenched central Tennessee in the da ys that led up to the run. However, after so me route chang es by organizers Jeff Russell , c.J Russell and Dave Coombs, and an influx of great weather, the even t went off as planned. The breakdown of brands a mong the 254 participants showed Hondas were the most popular with 103 bikes, while event sponsor Suzuki was represented by 63 riders. Kawasaki was the choice of 36 entra nts, followed by Yamaha (30), KTM (10), Husqvama (10), xrx and BMW (one each). Suzuki's nati onal dual-sport coordinator Mark Hyde was on hand to partcicpate in the run an d support riders of all brands. Six-time National cross country and Hare Scrambles champion Scott Summers came to provide representation for American Hond a. Moose Racing and Cycle NtwS also supported the event by organizing their own segments of the w eekend. Moose brought in two talen ted loca l singers for "Country Moosic" sh ows each night. while the Cyclt NtwS Catfish Fry on Saturda y evening proved to be very popular with the hungry participants. When the run was over, riders and pit crews also had the rare cha nce to mingle with country music legend and ranch namesake Loretta Lynn. who surprised ev en the event organizers by sto pp ing in during the Sunday evening trophy p resenta tion. Lynn is rare ly around for the other events at the ranch due to her touring schedule, and although she didn't sing an y of her famous songs. she greeted participants, posed for pictures and au tographed everything from p lace mats to jackets. "It's always a pleasure having the moto rcycle riders because they bring a tittle more excitement to Hurricane Mills than we normally have around here; Lynn said. "They're all such nice people and we enjoy having events like this . U I had known that this event didn't have all those whoop-de-doos like the others, I might ha ve hitched a ride!" Anderson awesome at Bridgehampton Motocross By Jim and Carolyn Simpson BRIDGEHAMP1UN, NY, APR. 30 Dan Anderson sco red an awesome 1-1 to lak e the ove rall win in the 250cc Novice class at the Bridgehampton MX facility. Joe Eaenel, William Dros koski, and Anderson made it a three-way battle for the lead to start the fi rst moto. Eannel and Dro slcoski swapped pla ces, giv ing the lead to Droskoski. Anderson moved up to overtake Eannel, then on to th e lead to finish the moto in first place . Droskoski scored second whil e Eannel claimed third. Anderson throttled his Honda into the lead as the gate dropped for moto two . James Bove and Droskoski trailed the leader, Anderson, into and up from the woods. Pumped from his firstmoto win, Anderson maintained his lead to capture the second-mote and overall wins. Bove dropped back , giving Droskoski second pla ce for the moto and second overa ll. Eric Flagg held off the challengers to take the win in moto one of the 125cc: Amateur class. Moto two show cased some exciting racing, with Flagg, John Jasinski, Eddie Hololob, Russ Lornbards and Dennis Robinson all going for the lead .
