advance, 'the FIM has released a provisional calendar for the 1995 World Championship MX Series, including locations for the next five Motocross des Nations events. The '95 GP calendar in cl u d es a U.S. round of the World Championship 250cc MX Series to be held in July . The track itself has not yet been determined. It looks as though we'll have to wait until 1999 before the U.S: hosts another MX des Nations race . Next year, the MX des Nations will be held in Slovakia, followed by Spain in 1996, Belgium in 1997, and Great Britain in 1998. The last time the U.S: hosted the MX des Nations was in 1988 at Unadilla. This year's MX des Nations will be held in Roggenburg, Switzerland on September 11. Dan Rouit of the Clovis, California, Dan Rouit Flat Track Museum called to let us know that they'll be hosting an open house on Sunday, May 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p .m . Multi-time Women's Motocross Champion Mercedes Gonzales made her , mountain bike racing debut at Castaic Park in Castaic, California on April 17. The nine-mile course featured numerous climbs, some of which were very steep, mixed in with fast, downhill fire road and single-track sections. Ever the motocrosser, Gonzales powered off the line with the holeshot and led the way until she reached the first big uphill. "Man, what an experience. Everyone to ld me that getting the holeshot in a bike race doesn't matter, but I couldn't help myself," said Gonzales, who finished an impressive fifth. "I'm definitely no t in bicycling shape, but I'll tell 'ya - I was rippin' on those downhills," Here's a chance to help a fellow motorcycle enthusia st . The San Bernardino, California, Sheriff's Department has learned that a male road racer may have been car-jacked in Corning, Californ ia, in late May of 1993. Authorities have information that a Caucasian in h is early-to-mid 405, with brown or reddish hair, may have been the victim. According to their in formation, the man had been driving a white Ford van - proba- bly with out-of-state plates - and carrying a street bike w ith number pla tes, along with protective gear. From Corning, he was allegedly forced to take his abductors south to either Lancaster or Bakersfield, where he m ay have been robbed of approximately $2000. Such a crime was never rep orted , and authorities don't know if the man was murdered or if he was threatened not to report the incident. The Sheriff's Department has arrested five men, who are in custody for murder, .a n d would like your help in iden ti fying th e victim. Martinez, a medical doctor, p resently is associate director of the Emory Un iversity Center for Injury Control in Atlanta. The U.S. Forest Service has named Steve Deitemeyer to head the newly created Recreation an d Public Service Team of the Rocky Mountain Region . For the past th ree years Deitemeyer served as assistant director of recreation management in the Washington, D.C. headquarters of th e For est Servic e. In the new position, Deitemeyer will be responsible fo r opera tion, planning and management of all recreation activities, including off-highway ve hicles, in National Forests in the five-state region. He is expected to move to the new post, in the Denver area, May 1. The County of Santa Clara Motorcycle Park in Northern California is currentl y recruiting vo lu n teer off-road patrol members to assist park ran ge rs w ith patrols of the 600-acre park. Volunteers must be proficient off-highway vehicle , rid ers, and must possess current American Red Cross Standard or Community First Aid certificates. Volunteers must be willing to patrol a minimum of two scheduled four-hour shifts per month, attend patrol meetings, and must provide their own riding gear. For more information, call: 408/226-5223 . According to the AMA's d irector of me mber activities, th e Women's Internati onal Motorsport Association, Inc/ s Ladies Motocross World Cup scheduled for Ok laho ma 's Motorcycl e Racewa y, Oklahoma City, on May 29, is no longer AMA sanctioned an d therefore not FIM affiliated. Fleming says the change came at the req uest of the WIMSA organization. WIMSA says they will sanction the even t themselves an d tha t "this action is in the best inte res ts of all women motocross racers w orldwide and will , result in red uced en try fees: ' The Southern California Flat Track Association is now holding its flat track events in conjunction with the Southern Califiornia Modified Midget Association at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernadino, California. The motorcycles will be racing during the modified midget series, which is scheduled to run on Saturday nights throughout the summer. Jim Rosa was the w inner of the first SCPTA Expert main event of the series on April 23, with Dennis Voll finishing second and Dennis Briggs th ird. Plans call for a track to be built on approximately 500 acres of Kaiser's former steel-manufacturing mill site nea r the interesection of interstates 10 and 15, not far from ,Ontario, California. According to form er racer Jody Nicholas, Herbert W. Neas, 64, died on November 25, 1993. Neas, a German immigrant, was shop foreman at BSA in th e mid-1950s, buiding the BSA Gold Star and other model BSA road racers ridden by Dick Mann, Nicholas and others. When BSA went out of bu siness in 1974, Neas wen t to the motorcycle d ivision a t BMW of North America w he re he stayed until 1986. He then transferred to the automobile division at BMW and remained there un til retiring in 1992. Neas is su rvi ved by his wife Mary, a daughter Marianne, a son Harry, a son-in-law John, a grandson Nicholas and his mother Frieda. So far, 24 countries will be rep resented at the September 20-25 International Six Days Enduro in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the ZinkRanch. Victory Sports Racing will be conducting an AMA-sanctioned 4-Stroke National Motocross Series, beginning May 14-15 at Muddy Creek Raceway in Blountville, Tennessee.
