With Carmichael finally out of the 1213-y ea r- old ag e group, th e d oor was wide open for Jacob Martin, who's been rid ing in Carmichael' s sha dow for the past two years. Mar tin esta blis he d h is d om inance fro m th e get-go and easily won three of the four motos in the 80cc 12-13 Stock and Mod ified classes. But just when it looked as if Martin was on his way to a grand slam in the final Mod ified class moto , tragedy struck the Oklahoma speed ster. "I was sliding through this tum and a rock caught my rear wheel," said Martin. "The next thin g I knew, I was stan ding up, dazed, and couldn't find my bike." Martin's bike was very bent, and his nose was blood ied , so the Suzuki rid er opted to retire for the da y. . Billy Payne inherited the lead when Martin crashed and raced home with the moto and overall wins. Justin Buckelew, N ick We y, Brett Ar cine a nd Alema n rounded out the top five. Some of th e weeke nd's best racin g was provided by the younges t racers namely the 80cc o-l1-year-old class racers. Travis Pastrana dominated the first Stock Division 1 moto after an early-race pass on Johnny Marley. Pastrana rode flawlessly and opened up a huge lead as he styled over the jumps. Marley rode cautiously early in the race, but by the mid-point was jumping all of the obstacles and began to close in on Pastrana. '1 was a little scared because it was so windy, but 1 got comfortable later and started to jump the doubles, " said Marley. In the end, Pastrana held on for the win, but Marley was close behind in second . Pas trana s moked away with a convincing win in moto two, crossing the finish line with a healthy 35-second lead over second-placed Marley, who was forced to overcome a poor start. Daniel Blair was third. . . In the Stock Division 2 class, Bobby Bonds race d away with the win in the ope ning mot o over Sean Hamblin, but crashed hard on the last lap of molo two while in the lead . Bonds cased hard on a d ouble jum p and crashed, breaking his p in ky finger in the p rocess . Hamblin wen t on to scor e th e mota and overall wins-while Bonds remounted in time to salvage second. Dusty Fountain p ut in a solid ride for third, followed by Adam Burris and Shane Bess. The final 80cc 0-11 Stock cIass run-off wou ld pit the top 15 riders from each . d ivision against each other. Each rider carried his individual division score forward, and the single run-off would serve as the tie breaker in the event of matching scores. When th e gate d rop ped it w as the Yamahas of Marley and Hamblin jetting into the lead , while Pastrana sat in third: Within one lap, Pastrana moved into second and set after Marley. The battle that ens ued would be the best of the weekend, as Pastr an a d ogged Marley over every inch of the track. But when the checkered flag waved, it was Marley who hel d on for the win by the narrowest of margins.
