Holland king of
Hi-mountain Motocross

POZO,CA, MAR. 20
Rusty Holland won all four motos for a clean a
sweep and the lion's share of the money at the
Hi-mountai n MX facility in Pozo.
Holland was the w in ne r of w hat m ay
become a regula r pa rt of the series, an all-pro
event in which pro riders can race any size bike.
Holland got off to a slow sta rt in the first moto
bu t soon found his way to the front, and from
there styled his way to the first-moto win . The
second moto sta rted out a little d ifferently but
still ended the same with the Suzuki- mounted
Holland finishing first. Shawn Wynne and Brett
Cross battled it out for second and third place,
finishing in that orde r.
Cross, a forme r Melee support rider who
recen tly got back into the sport, survived a hardfo ught ba ttl e to w in th e Vet Pr o class over
Rob ert Weber a nd th ird-pl ace ride r Robert
Reisinger. Weber holeshot both motos, but Cross
mad e up grou nd quickly, eve nt ually passing
Weber for the win late in both motos.
Don Franklin was riding like a cowboy trying to w restle a steer. Franklin had his hands full
with his 27Q-pound bike, but was able to use all
the power of his ATK 605 on the straights and
hoo ked up hard in the loam y turns . Frank lin
appeared to have second place in the Vet class
sewn up, bu t as he rounded the tum just past
the sta rt in the seco nd moto's final stages, he
wen t wide and clipped a hay bale, carlw heeling
down the straight and end ing his chances.

AZTEC, NM, MAR.lJ
Honda ride r Ni ch olas Marx rode to a hard earned win in the 125cc Junior class at the opening round of the 1994 CMC/ Az tec Motocross
Series at Aztec MX.
The firs t 125cc Ju m io r mot o began with
Yama ha -mou n ted Jeff Mo ntoya pulling the
ho lsesh ot followed by Marx, Jer ry Mills and
Garrett Thimothy. Marx made his move for the
lead at the start of the fourth lap. Montoya managed to stay close to Marx for one lap but even- .
tually fell off the pace. When the checkered flag
fell, Marx had secured the first-moto win with
Mills, Montoya and Thimothy finishing second,
third and fourth, respectively.
Moto two featured an addition to the class in
the form of Jarrett Guillory, who had not competed in moto one and thus wou ld not be a contend er for the overall win . As the class shot out
of the gate for the start, Marx nailed the holeshot
w ith Guillor y ho t on h is heels. As the du o
entered the third tum , Guillory squeezed Mans
and bulled his way into the lead. However, Guillory lost it in the whoops a half a lap later and
crashed , allowing Marx to regain the lead while
Guillory slipped to fourth. Ove r the ne xt th ree
laps, Guillory sliced through the pack but could
nev er close the distance between himself and
Marx. A visibly excited Marx crossed the finish
line first in the second-moto to clinch the overall
win , whi le Gu illory finished second . Montoya,
Mills and Thimothy roun ded out the top five.
