Virginia's Shawn Shultz took over the lead , th ough not for long. New Jersey' s Mike Pea t soo n pa ssed him for the lead and continued to pull ahea d of the field for the next two laps until his crank failed , ending his day. The lead now fell to Brian Carroll who held on for the win, which comb ined with a mo re convin cing win in moto tw o gave him top honors . Second overa ll w as Ma ryland 's BillySchlag, and Ray Sommo was a consis ten t 3--3 for third overall. Maryland's Tim Schmelyun was convincing in the Vet A class by taking both moto wins over New Jerse y's Jerry Seip . Ken Blackwell recov ered from a poor first moto to take seco n d in mot o two for third overall. Josh Sweat proved too stro ng for the rest of the 125cc B field . Stiff competition was expected from Billy Snook and Joh n Schneider, but neither was able to rac e. After Sweat opened up almost a half-lap lead in bo th mo tos, there was no one in his way except lapped riders. New Jersey 's Ron Fais st proved to be the class rid er in the 250cc B class by taking both motos and the overa ll win.
