CRC Grand Prix win to Messenger By Greg Robertson PALMDALE CA.MAR.20 , Perseverance paid off for Phillip Messenger as he came from behind to capture the 250cc Beginner class win d uring California Racing Club's Gold en Bear Grand Prix at Los Angel es County Racew ay. Messeng er, Steve Stancer and Rand y Lipp ie got the jump on the field to lead the opening lap of the 45-minute race before Stancer and Lippie hooked up together and sta rted pulling away from Messenger. Marc Woodard had moved up to fourth and was feeling pressur e from Brooke Yelsa . By the 2D-minute mark in the race, the lead battle betw een Stan cer an d Lipp ie had carrie d them to a 2.Ckec ond ad vantage over Messen ger. lippie go t tir ed of ea tin g Stancer's roost and drove a roun d him in a comer to take over the top spot. Woodard was keeping Messenger in sight until he crashed off a small double jump, handing fourth to Tim Madd en . Lippi e see me d to have the race in the bag, pulling out a l Osecond lead w ith on ly a few lap s remai ning, but tha t cha nged when Lipp ie had troubl e and his lead shrank to almost noth ing. Sud de nly, Stancer wa s within striki ng distance of the lead er and being hounded by Mes- . senge r, who out-raced him down a long straigh t to move int o second and se t ou t af ter Lippie. Messen ger quickly chewed up Lipp ie's lead and wa s in po sit ion to ta ke control with the whi te flag in sigh t. On the same straight on which he'd p as sed Stance r, Messen ger kept th e t h rott le p inned longer an d put the move of Lip p ie for the lead . Lippie tried to retaliate, but Messenger had the mom entum on his side and gree ted the checke red flag first . Stancer ended up finishing third, a good distan ce ahead of Woodard.
