Heat race winners Moural, Shad Echelberger
an d Mark Cooper joined the rest of the 15-rider
field on the line for the ma in event. At the drop
. of the ga te it w as Moural jumping to the ea rly
lead , hotl y pursued by Eche lberger, Ga ry Wa lker., Tom Jones and Cooper . By the end of lap one
Jones had sho t by Walk er, and Dale Cox moved
around Cooper for fifth. By lap th ree, Cooper
and Richard Morgan both made it around Walke r an d se t their sights on Cox. Mea nw h ile up
front , Moura l had found a pai r of rollers on the
long u phill portion of the track and began turnin g them into a 95-foot double. The crowd- pleasing launch q uickly pu t a lot of ground between

In BOec action, heat race win ners Bobby Pau ling and Kyle Gamer led the I5-rider field off the
line, bu t as they roun ded the first comer it was
Su zuki-mounted Ga m er grabbi ng the hol es hot
follo wed by Nicolette Harris, Eva n Laughr idge
and Dustin Ho warth. By the end of the first lap ,
Harris had moved p ast Garner and put h er

int o the lead, while Howarth had. managed to
ge t around Laughrid ge for third. By the halfway
point, Ha rr is and Gam er had opened up qui te a
bit o f gro und on the rest of the field , with nev er
more than a few feet sepa ra ting the two . Sud dcnl y, in one of the slower comers, Harris came
in too hot, went wide, and Gamer sh ot through
to the lead. Meanwhile the battle for th ird wa s
heating up w ith Laughridge pushing his Jessee
Mach in e-back ed Ya ma ha past Howarth while
Pauling ran a di stant fifth . Once up front, Ga rner extended his lead to the finish and the final
orde r saw him take his first win of the series followedb y H a r ris , Laughridge, H owarth and
Pauling.

Summey slams Ultra
Series Motocross opener

Kawasaki-mounted Joshua Summey terrorized
the Mini ranks and ope ned his Ultra Series MX
season with a near sweep of three classes at the
Sand hills MX facility .
Summey headed the 60cc over a d ozen riders including Win ter Series Champion Derreck
Bell , Daniel Rhodes, Bra ndon Langd on a nd
Michael Willis . In the lO-rider Junior Mini field ,
Su mmey again bested Belt as well as Jonathan
Rhodes and Bryan Weat herly.
Onl y in the Super Mini class was Sum mey
thwarted. The co mpe tition in both moto s wa s
intense, wit h only thr ee riders finishin g in the
same position in bo th motes. The orde r was so
jumbled that John Ly tto n wa s abl e to win th e
cla ss with 1-4 fini sh es . Summey wa s second
wit h a 5·1 , and Er ic Barne s' 4·2 wa s g ood
enough for third place overall.
Bria n Lane ruled the Schoolbo y class, and
tra ded 125cc C mo to w ins w ith Chris Boh ner .
Lan e cam e o ut ahead in the 30-rider l 25cc C
field by by virtue of his be tte r finish in the allimpo rtant second moto.
Lane also sha red moto wins with Scott linkous in the 20-ride r 250cc C class, bu t Lin kous
eme rged victoriou s this time w ith his 1·2 score,
which beat ou t Lane's 4-1 for the ove rall. Mike
Andrews dominated the 125 and 2SOcc A classes, as well as the 25+ class, coming aw ay with
over $500 .
