A very determined Wooda rd nailed his seco n d ho le shot of th e day to s ta rt mo to two, p ull ing away to safe lead with Gibso n abo u t a half- dozen bike len gths back. Dubin had gated well and was running third, with Terry Terraed ana and Weber in hot purs uit. The ac tion behind Woodar d beg an to heat up as Weber doubled his way past Terracciana, bu t Weber mad e a fata l ju dgeme n t erro r and went down h a rd coming off th e s te p -dow n ju mp. He a ttempted to rejoin the race, but then called it a da y. Woodard , who had led from the opening lap, spun his bike in a slick. off-camber com er, allo win g Gibso n to slip by for the lead and the win . M ike jeevey (Yam). rcter Evans explodes at Oatfield MX By David Allen l1JRLOCK,CA,MAR13 Tyl er Evans ba gged a win in th e 80ee Novice class a t the opening round of the GFI Spring MX Series at Oatfield Racewa y, wh ere over 2SO rid ers came to try for the cash and pri zes. In a bid to become an even faster rid er, Evans, who u sua ll y com p et es in th e 80cc No vice cl ass, en tered himself in the 125cc Novice class. Wh en the gate dropped in the first mot o, Evans found himself m ired in back of the lar ger bikes. Showing the detennination of a seasoned professional, Evan s began fighting h is way through traffic. By the end of the seco nd lap Evans had pu shed his 80cc mo unt into sixth position behind Clint Willis. Wh en the leade rs bobbled, Willi s sho t pa st while Evans squirted through in to second pl ace. Willis an d Evans ba ttl ed it o u t in the rem aining laps, but in the end, Willis took the win. The crowd was primed for a second -mo te battle when the gate dropped . All 16 rid er s raced for the first tum w ith Evan s in fifth palce behind Darin Pulse y a n d m ote -one win ne r Willis. Willis then began his charge to the front w ith Pul sey and Evans remain ing fourth a nd fifth, respectively. By the second lap , the top five riders were riding fend er to fende r. Wh en the lead freight train en te red th e specta to r turns, Pu lse y and Evans d ove to the ins ide an d took over first and second place. Evans th en started applying pressure to Pulsey. Evan s sho wed a wheel at absolutely every opportunity.
