OR, FEB. 20 Off-road specialist Tom Young showcased his versa tilty by to pping two main events d u ring the sho rt track action at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. In the 30+ class, Young was faced with some p retty tou gh co mp etition, most notably Fra nk Crane. Cra ne chased Young to the finish in the class hea t race and did the same throughout the ma in, but Cra ne's do-or-d ie cha rge on the last lap ended with him dropping two spo ts at the finish. Tim Ricketts and Lee Thompson ran second and third, respectively. Young 's second win came after Ryan Anderson dropped ou t of the action and gave Young an easy win to take home the top money in the Open Pro class. Young came up short in his bid for a triple-class sweep, with Aar on Waggoner putting his Yamaha into the winner's circle in the Open Sportsman A main. An abundance of 80ce machines we re on hand, forcin g a series of qualifi ers befor e the main event. Tim Ricketts Jr. held off Sean U gh t in heat o ne, while Mi ke Pierce edged Kurt Hawke in heat two. At the start, round seven winner Doug Jones was first off the line and into the woods followed by the rest of the Pro class. Patterson pa tien tly held back and then slid past Jones about halfway thro ugh the first lap on a small , slick hill. On til< seco nd of the three t o-mil e laps, Patterson hac' problems of his own and Mike Sampson caughand passed him. A miscue by Sampson towarc the end of the lap on some slick logs landed hin on the ground, whi le Patterson sprinted past an' ran unco ntes ted thro ugh lap three and on to tho finish line for the win. Missou ri's Chris Capl inger on his Domelsoi Cycle-sponso red ATK was also on the move aru passed up John Mach ino and Jones to hold thin plac e fo r about half of the seco nd lap.
