Durelle immediately ju mped into the lead at the start of the Ope n Pro main and was followed d own the back straight by Jerry Wilhelmy, Dan Zltur, Bucky Lorentz, Rand y Triplett, wild card en try Travis Johnso n, Mike Tehro and Eric Brouhard. By lap three, Durelle and Wilhelmy pulled away from the field as Triplett slipped by Lorentz an d Zitur for third. As the race reached the halfway mark, Tehro and Brouhard moved Lorentz down into seventh place but were still we ll behi nd th e f ro nt- run ne rs . O n lap six, Brouhard pu lled off with a mechanical gremlin. Meanwhile, Du relle stretched his lead over Wilhelm y, and wi th three laps to go too k a look back to check on the competi tion . "I saw Davey look oye r his shoulder," Wilhelmy said . '1 think he was toyin g wi th me ." H was just making sure," Durelle said. Demaria dazzles 'em at Perris Motocross By Tony Alessi PERRIS, CA,jAN.30 Ru n ner-up in the World Championsh ip MX se ries, Yves Demaria turned the GFI Am ateur Supercross at Perris Raceway in to an inte rnationa l event by postin g the overa ll Pro class victory ove r Tallon Vohland . The Perr is lace course was tran sformed"in to a full-on supercross environment featu ring doub le jum ps, step-ups and numerou s rocker sections. Demaria ho leshot the openin g Pro race and led for two laps before turning over the lead to VohIand. Dem aria tried to regain the lead a few lap s la te r but bobbled and d rop ped b ack to fourth. Yann Guedard picked up the runner-up spot, but then got caught up in lapped tra ffic and made an unscheduled trip in to the banners. "The lapper forced me off the track, then the banners were stuck in my brakes" Guedard sa id . Demaria made a qu ick pass on Frederick Vialle for second where he re ma ined to the finish behind mote-winner Vohlan d. The se con d mo ta saw Voh land n ail th e holeshot, but this time Dema ria seemed to have the ed ge and passed Vohland by the start of the third lap. From tha t point on, Demaria held his lines an d lap by lap be gan to inch away from Voh land for the moto and overall win. Vialle was o nc e ag a in t hr illing for third, w hile Guedard, Greg Riault and Chris Da ubitz roun ded out the top six. Gabe Bolivar made a bri lliant retu rn to racing after an eight-week layoff, rack in g up an impressive fou r-mo to sweep of bo th the 125 and 250cc Intermediate classes . " After I broke my hand, three weeks later I broke my toe ," Bolivar said. "This is my first race back an d my endurance is really bad." Bolivar top ped Jaso n Field s and Dean Van Riper in the 125cc class, and Steve Cox and Alex Zapata in the 2505. Cindy Cole con tinued her dominance of the 125cc Novice class and handly won both motos, Co le, however, was ou t-classed by the "one arm bandi t", Todd Decoto , who was the only Novice rider of the d ay to do uble the 7(}-foot jump near the specta tor area . Manning grabs Club Motosport Motocross win By Steve Bohn CLEWISTON, FL. jAN. 9 Chri s Mannin g out-battled three other contenders to score the overall w in in the 125cc B class at the opening round of the 1994 SFMX Championship Series at Club Motosport MX Park. The 125cc B class was one of the most competitive classes of the da y, as four riders were capable of winning. The jup iter Cydes Suzukimounted Manning defini tely had the edge, riding flawl essly to the victory in both mot os. Man nin g never had a moment to rest though. as the th re e ri ders wa ging war behind h im we re always withi n striking distance.
