Proctor pounds Turkey Trial By Don Williams AUBURN, CA, NOV.20 Af te r buildin g up a six -point mar gin on the opening loop, Triumph Cu b-mounted Kim Proctor held off Jim Gol lihar by the slimmest of margins to grab the PITS Turkey Trial Vintage A win at the Mammoth Bar OHV Area . GoIIihar started his comeback on his Yamaha TY17S by knocking a point off Proctor's lead on the seco nd lap . On the last go-round, Gollihar pulled ou t all the stops and turned in a 16-point loop, the bes t Vintage A loop of the day. That loop locked Gollihar and Procto r up at 63 poi nts each. Cleans were totalled and there was still no winner. When the ones were tallied, Proctor edged Gollihar 11-10. Going in to the Turkey Trial, defending PITS Champion Kenny Leduc trailed Kip Webb by thr ee poin ts in the Master class . A win by Led uc would ha ve guaranteed him a tie in the point sta ndings. Led uc, on a Gas-Gas Contact, vaulted to a 16-17 lead over Web b o n the first loo p . Webb pilo ted h is Fantic Key-Roo into a tie for t he lea d after t he second la p as bo th ride rs improved thei r scores. Webb prevailed for the class win . The Senior Amateur top spot was d ecided by cleans. Gas-Gas riders Steve Darrow and Barry Lowery were neck and neck the entire day and finished with 13 points each . Darrow easily out cleaned Lowery 23-20 to sna re the victory. Ties were also broken by cleans to for the top spot in the Senior class . The transition from smaller bikes to larger ones is difficult for most, but Dustin Nelson appears to be making it rather easily as he rod e his Team Green Kawasak is to victori es in the 250cc Intermed iate and 12See (16-21) classes in convincing fashion. Shawn Ellis managed to get off the line soon: er than Nelson in both the 125cc (16-21) motes. Nelson d ogged Ellis the entire first rnoto , then found himself in third place behin d Tyler King on the last lap . However, a hard fmal-lap charge proved froitful for Nelson as he picked up the win. Nelson was perfect in the seco nd mot a to gamer th e overall victory. Lar s-Erik Lar sson swapped the lead with Nelson a couple of times in the 250cc Intermed iate act ion during moto on e, but N elson clearly dominated the second mo to, again posting 1-1- socres en route to the overall win. Don Connelly was another d oubl e-class win ner as he fought off a hard-char gin g Ch ris Swift in both Old Pharts mot es . Connelly then came out for the Over Th e Hill Gan g Pro bat tle an d came ho me victorious there as well . Geoff Rader came out strong in the BOcc (911) Stock class and won both motos. Rader then rep eated the p e r fo rm an ce in the 60cc (7-11) Stock class. In BOcc Beginner actio n, Tim Rasmu ssen earned both mota victo ries after chas ing do wn Hector Rios in the first mota. Rasmusson knew he had his wo rk cut out afte r see ing Rios holes hot the second mot o. Corey Clayton took over .the lead on lap two with Rasmussen trailing.
