Proctor pounds Turkey Trial
By Don Williams
AUBURN, CA, NOV.20
Af te r buildin g up a six -point mar gin on the
opening loop, Triumph Cu b-mounted Kim Proctor held off Jim Gol lihar by the slimmest of margins to grab the PITS Turkey Trial Vintage A
win at the Mammoth Bar OHV Area .
GoIIihar started his comeback on his Yamaha
TY17S by knocking a point off Proctor's lead on
the seco nd lap . On the last go-round, Gollihar
pulled ou t all the stops and turned in a 16-point
loop, the bes t Vintage A loop of the day.
That loop locked Gollihar and Procto r up at
63 poi nts each. Cleans were totalled and there
was still no winner. When the ones were tallied,
Proctor edged Gollihar 11-10.
Going in to the Turkey Trial, defending PITS
Champion Kenny Leduc trailed Kip Webb by
thr ee poin ts in the Master class . A win by Led uc
would ha ve guaranteed him a tie in the point
sta ndings. Led uc, on a Gas-Gas Contact, vaulted
to a 16-17 lead over Web b o n the first loo p .
Webb pilo ted h is Fantic Key-Roo into a tie for
t he lea d after t he second la p as bo th ride rs
improved thei r scores. Webb prevailed for the
class win .
The Senior Amateur top spot was d ecided by
cleans. Gas-Gas riders Steve Darrow and Barry
Lowery were neck and neck the entire day and
finished with 13 points each . Darrow easily out cleaned Lowery 23-20 to sna re the victory.
Ties were also broken by cleans to for the top
spot in the Senior class . Bob Willia ms Jr. took the
win over Bob Tufford by virtue of his three per fect rides to Tufford's two .

The transition from smaller bikes to larger ones
is difficult for most, but Dustin Nelson appears
to be making it rather easily as he rod e his Team
Green Kawasak is to victori es in the 250cc Intermed iate and 12See (16-21) classes in convincing
fashion.
Shawn Ellis managed to get off the line soon:
er than Nelson in both the 125cc (16-21) motes.
Nelson d ogged Ellis the entire first rnoto , then
found himself in third place behin d Tyler King
on the last lap . However, a hard fmal-lap charge
proved froitful for Nelson as he picked up the
win. Nelson was perfect in the seco nd mot a to
gamer th e overall victory. Lar s-Erik Lar sson
swapped the lead with Nelson a couple of times
in the 250cc Intermed iate act ion during moto
on e, but N elson clearly dominated the second
mo to, again posting 1-1- socres en route to the
overall win.
Don Connelly was another d oubl e-class win ner as he fought off a hard-char gin g Ch ris Swift
in both Old Pharts mot es . Connelly then came
out for the Over Th e Hill Gan g Pro bat tle an d
came ho me victorious there as well .
Geoff Rader came out strong in the BOcc (911) Stock class and won both motos. Rader then
rep eated the p e r fo rm an ce in the 60cc (7-11)
Stock class. In BOcc Beginner actio n, Tim Rasmu ssen earned both mota victo ries after chas ing
do wn Hector Rios in the first mota. Rasmusson
knew he had his wo rk cut out afte r see ing Rios
holes hot the second mot o. Corey Clayton took
over .the lead on lap two with Rasmussen trailing. Rasmusson finally ma de his move on the
last lap to cross und er the checkered first.
