and Freddie Mitchell, taking both 125cc
B class victories.
The Grand Prix event was the most
co mp lex and challenging of the week.
Riders started LeMans style in a gra ssy
pa sture and circula ted the motocross
track in reve rse before head ing into the
Florida woods and finis hing the lap on
the supercross track. Most classes ran
for 30 minutes, wi th the Experts p ut ting
in 40.
Windham was again the man to beat
in the 125cc A class and he was agai n off
to a good start, passing Curry, Plotts,
Neese and Deegan to win wi th a convincing lead.
Curry led the 250cc parade with
Windham, Neese, Deegan, Travis Blackburn and Pa ul C urrie in h ot p ursui t.
Deeg an moved in to second and engaged
Curry in a battle for th e lea d. Deegan
was able to sneak past Curry and hold
on for the win.
" I was tense on my 125, but I felt
loose and relaxed on .the 250," said Deegan of his performance . "I was glad to
win and prove so mething to myself and
to my sponsors."
Windham finished third , ending his
win streak, but thir d place was enough
to sew up the class . Windham was ela ted with his d ouble class championships.
"I was relieved tha t"the pressure was
off, but I didn't let th em (the leaders)
go," said Windham . " I only needed
fourth for the 250cc cla ss title and the
Silver T ire Award is a wond erful
bo nus."

In the 65 (7-11) class, poin ts leader
Medrano watched his clas s ride out of
s ight as he painfully tried to kick his
load ed up KX to life. MoraIIes won the
event, bu t Medrano charged back to second, claiming the class championship.
Class leader Travis Pastrana ran third
behi nd Justi n Buckelew and A a ro n
Lindsey in the 85cc (7-11) event at the
end of lap one, but Pastrana was able to
earn the cha m pio ns hi p with a secondplace finish .
"Both those guys w ere smoking me
in the woods," Pastrana sai d. "I caug ht
Lindsey for second, but Buckel ew was
faster on the reversed motocross section
and I couldn't catch him."
Carmichael celebra ted his 14th birthday by completing a perfect sweep of
the 85cc (12-13) competition, and Perolio
was ab le to clinch the 125cc (12-15) class
aft er Karl Harris cra sh ed on the s upercross co urse , hand ing him the lead.
Jones backed up his mot ocro ss performance by winning the 40+ class, but in
th e end Pe ter Harrison to o k the 40+
class champions hip.
Although m ost of the competitors
appea red to enjoy the competition at the
22nd Annual Florida Win ter National
Olympics, tha t is of ten only a part of
what makes it a event great. Tony Griffis and family came from Hilton Head,
South Carolina jus t to watch the race.
"We w o u ld n 't mi ss a ll th is fun ,"

p lans to come (nex t year)."
