Kawasaki rid er Jim Neese took over the reins in this department, winning three of the four in the A class division. Neese finished just ahead of Windham in both the 125cc Stock and Modified, and the 250/500cc Modified class. Windham's only win in the supercross competition was in the 250/5OOcc Stock class . Deegan was the runner-up, while Neese finished third. "I had a lot of trouble in the IT competition and felt pressured to do better," said N eese o f h is s upercross performanc e. "Today, I pulled it together. I'm back in the game now." Jus tin Buckelew and Travis Pas trana resumed their 1992 battle that ended in a narrow victory by Pasatrana. Competing in the 85cc (7-11) class, ea ch rider scored wins in the IT division, and di d the same in the supercross competition. Buckelew, aboard a Yamaha, won the Stock class and Pastrana, Suz u ki-mounted, topped the Modifieds. In the 125cc (12-15) class, Kawasaki riders Shaun Perolio and Robbie Horton tra ded division wins. After winning the Stock fina l, Perolio said, "Robbie (Horton) rode a good race then slid out and fell . I hate to take a win that way." Horton came back and ev en ed th e tally with a win in the Modified race. Kristy Shealy led her Au stralian nemesis Tiffany Greenwood, as well as Amber Hughes, Gina Perry and Nadine Holbert acros s the fin ish li ne in the Women's division. After winning the IT division in the 25+ class the previous da y, Honda rider Bill y Whitley co n tinued hi s w in n in g w ays in th e su percross competitioin, w hile Suzuki rid er Bill Wallin finished second . Kawasa ki-mounte d Je ff Willoh scored an exciting win in the 250cc B Stock class. "I had a great race wi th J.D. Co lli ns," said Willoh . " I go t th e holesh ot, he pass ed me, but I stayed on him. He fell under the tunnel jump and I passed him back for the wi n." Willoh w on the 125cc B Sto ck an d Modified classes, as well . Winner of the 250cc B Modified class was Kenneth Jones, aboard a Honda. "I took the lead and got so excited that I clipped a ha y bale and Don Hardy got by," said Jon es. "I cam e back and passed him in the whoops for the win." Hardy held on to second, ov er John Kidd and Collins. Gatorback's Natio nal Championshipcaliber motocross course was the handsdown favorite ven ue of the event, as evidenced by the 1089 motocro ss entrants. N eese, determined to stop Windham's trophy march, grabbd the 125cc A stock class holeshot, bu t could n' t sto p Windham's charge to victory. Neese was able to hol d on for second place ahead of Jeff Curry, Deegan and Andre Pene. " My arms pumped an d I couldn't hold Kevin (Win d h am )," said Neese after the race. "I took second, so I need to bea t him in the 250cc class." But Neese fared no better in the 250cc Stock clas s as Windham reeled him in a fter the start an d passed for the lead. Neese set after Windham bu t snapped a chain after land ing from the finish-line ju mp. Windham went on to wi n w it h Deeg an and Ch ester finish in g se co nd and third, respectively. The 25 0cc M od ified m ota w as a nigh tma rish flas hback for Neese as he led the moto early, only to have his new chain stretch an d derail. Vince Devan e paced th e fiel d as Windha m worked tow ard th e fr on t from a n 11 th -p lace start, to find hims elf in a ve ry familiar position a t the en d of the moto. Windham won again followed by Deegan and Robb ie Skaggs. "They mad e me work h ard in th is mo to," Windham said. "I caug ht up to Devane, found a wa y around him, and it was smooth sailing after that." In the 85cc (12-13) class, Ricky Ca r mi chael le d fl ag to fl a g in both mo tes, w hile the Ben tley vs. Bogard duel con tinued in the 85cc (14-15) class . Bentley headed the firs t Stock mot a. "I got off to the gate clean and rod e hard because I kn ew Bogard wo uld be coming, " said Bentley . Bogard would notch the second Stock and both Mod ified moto wins to preserve the class points lead. Perolio scored both overall wins in the 125cc (12-15) classes despite heavy co m p eti ti on fro m Chris Wh ee ler a nd Ch et Bumgardner.
