As the 130 competi tors began ven turing out onto the co urse, it wouldn 't be un til the firs t ti med section. which was befo re the se cond check, that the race would beg in to take shape .wh en Hines rocketed through the tigh t, technical sectio n to drop a 3:45 and assume control of the lead at that point. Things remained fairly qui et until the riders mo tored through the flags at the fourth check, where Stewart managed to drop only a single poin t while everyone else in conten tion, including early lead er Hines, all had a two written on their ind ividua l score cards. After an eig ht mile roa d section, the co mpetitors would come into the official gas stop whi ch rou ghly marked the halfway poin t of the event. A qu ick look a t the front-runners' score ca rds would revealthat Hin es enjoyed a 48-second lead over Stewart as they both shared a score of five. H ine s wou ld blitz throu gh the 20· mi nu te reset sec tion and drop a three while Stewa rt cou ld only must er a four. The scores would rema in the same un til the last 1Il-mile section, which had the second securit y check. Hine s stop ped the clock at five flat through the flag s, fini shing the da y with an eventual 13. Behind him, the battle between Claxton and Stewart w ould end wi th Stewart ed gin g out his riva l wi th a 5:06 co mp a red to Claxton's score of 5:04. Although both competitors would claim a 14, after the tie-brea kers were ad ded up, Stewart edged out Claxton by a mere 35 seconds to claim second overall honors and his first NIITRA enduro championship. Fay sat on the pole, but Annen, Harsha and Fitzhugh pushed into the lead at the wave of the green flag. Comin g out of the dogleg, Fitzh ugh and Fay tang led, and the pair went d own, causing a restart. On ce things got settled down, Harsha took comman d a nd wa s neve r headed . Fay and Fitzhugh loom ed in Harsha 's shado w the entire race, but neith er could get a whee l past him as the three established a good-sized lead over the b attle betw een Experts La rs Trulson, Wilson, Annen and Tro y Rose.
