By Michael Snyder
ASSONET, MA. ocr.17
Randy McCann piloted his Mid-Town Kawasaki

When the shot-gu n blast went off for the 10la p Exper t a nd Amateur cla ss , it was Sco tt

Davidson, jason Haines and Todd Levesque battling har d with Dave Gu n n. By the time tha t
they rea ppeared, it wou ld be a flying McCann
who had assumed the lead over Phelps with a
fast-dosing Crispin breathing d own his neck.
On the third lap, McCann wa s quickly making it look like another one of his patented runaways as he held nearl y a 3O-second adva ntage
over Phel ps , who s hared al most t he sa me
advantage ove r Cris pi n. Things started to ge t
interesting on the next lap as a very d etennined
Crispin began to cho p away at second- place
Phelps, and eventua lly pa ssed him . About the
only movement for the frontru nners in the next
co up le o f la ps wa s not good fo r Phe lp s as he
bega n to move backwards and, du rin g his pi tstop on the sixth lap, had decided to call it a day .
During the lat er stages of the race, Honda mounted Crispin s ta r te d to put on a cha rge
towards the leader McCann. With the help of his
fathe r, McCann wa s able to notice tha t Crispin
was d osing. McCann pu t his head back down'
a n d p roceed ed to put e ve n mo re d ista nce,
between himself and Crisp in to finish an eventua l .39 seco n ds a head of the Honda-moun ted

wo uld be a motivated Bob Davidson as he
closed the gap be twee n himself and Crispi n to
only .24 seconds, with Kawasaki -mou nted Dave
Gunn finishing .31 seconds beh ind and claiming
the fourth overall position.
