Akers hurts 'ern atBurleson MX By A. Phee B URLESON, IX, OCT. 24 Suz uki-mounted Billy Akers came from beh ind to top the 12Sec Intermediate class a t Burleson Motocross Park. . At the start o f the firs t 125cc Intermed iate moto, Travis Spann on a Suzu ki timed the gate p e rfectly a nd came a way w it h th e h olesh ot . Kawasaki-mou n ted Jord an Jordan ran in second while Cod y Wilks on a Kawasaki was third and Billy Vaughn on a Hon da wa s fourth. Suz u kimounted Akers got away sixth but moved up to third by the comp le tion of the firs t lap . Akers was closing in on second but wen t off the track in the back sectio n and dropped back to sixth. Spann and Jordan moved aw ay from third place as Akers was cha rging back throug h the pack, picking off riders in an effort to get back to the fron t. Ha lf wa y into lap th ree it was still Spann, Jordan, Wilks and Akers now in fourth. Akers moved pa st Wil ks for th ird throu gh the bowl tu rns, an d hi s mom et u m ca rried him a ro u nd Jo rda n into seco nd. Akers moved up to cha l ~ len ge Spa nn for the lead w ith two laps to go . Spa nn p icked up h is pace in an effort to kee p Ake rs in second. b u t they ca me toget her tw o tu rns fro m th e fini sh. Akers jammed to the insi de to ta ke the lead on the last lap while Spa n n w e nt dow n a n d Jo rdan, Wilks and Vaughn got past. At the finish it was Akers with Jo rdan in secon d Wilks in third Vaug hn in fourth. Spann ended up sixth. At the start of moto two, Jordan grabbed the lead with Ak ers, Va ug hn and Wilks in to w . Akers we n t {or the lead in the switchback section and made an outs ide pass on Jorda n to take the lea d o n la p one. At the start o f la p two , Akers and Jordan moved away from the third p la ce ba ttl e between Va u g h n and W ilks. Vaugh n managed to keep Wilks at bay for mos t of the second molo until Spann came up to ma ke it a three-r ider battle fo r thi rd . This allowed Vaughn to p ull aw ay on the last lap as Spann passed Wilks for fourth with Vaughn finishin g a co mfortable th ird. Aker s top ped moto tw o for the overall victory with Jordan finishing second . Todd Wat son was the do minating force in the 30+ Nov ice class, a nd Jesu s Marquez hand led a tou gh challenge from Jake Jon es to win the 80cc Novice class. Res ults SO: 1. Joshua Tuttle (Yam); 2.
