"I think I like the track backwards better," said Ferry. "But maybe that's because I've never ridden it forwards!" Ferry's luck on the backwards course slarted off badly, as his ignition misfired just after the start of the first 125Cc Pro moto. Ferry started outside of the top 20 and spent the entire race trying to work up through the field. At the other end of the pack, DeHoop ran out front and battled with holeshot artist Jeff Glass. Carsten was mired midpack after a poor start. "They were supposed to do the start just like they do at the Nationals," said Carsten. "The gate is supposed to fall five to 10 seconds after they turn the card sideways, but it fell in about two seconds. Everybody was caught off guard, myself included." ' Carsten smoked into third by the 20- ' minute mark with Ferry hot on his heels, while DeHoop continued to lead with Plotts hot on his tail. "About four laps from the end, I caught a deep rut in an off-eamber tum and smashed my pipe completely," said DeHoop. After that Plotts reeled me in and got by. I couldn't stay with him on the uphills." Plotts scored the win with a five-second lead over Del-loop, while Carsten finished third a few seconds back. Ferry was fourth. The second moto saw another Glass holeshot. "I could see the starter's hat poking up from the box," said Glass. "Everytime he dropped the gate, his hat would bob down. If he had faked me, I would have been right through the gate." Ferry pulled off early in the race after his ignition problems escalated, but DeHoop was on fire as he motored past Glass and into the lead . Plotts and Carsten motored into second and third, respectively, but things changed suddenly at the 20-rninute mark.
