Mea nwhile, Childress, Glass, Dale Spangler and David Hand filed in behind. Ferry gated poorly but worked up to fourth within onl y a few laps . Within a few more laps he had motored pa st Ch ildress and Ca rsten to cl ose in on DeHoop . Ferry finall y claimed the lead at the 22-minute mark w hen he dove unde r DeHoop on the inside of an off-eamber tum and out-ran him up the followin g hill. "I d idn't get a good start but I rod e . smooth ly a nd caught up," said Ferr y. "Del-loop 's 500 wa s just pelting me. I was surprised that I passed him on an uphill. " Ca rsten would also motor past DeHo op o n th e sa m e section o f th e cou rse. "Todd pa ssed me ea rly in the race b ut I thin k he got tired o u t, " sai d Carsten. "I paced myself the wh ole time and cau ght him with three laps to go." "I hit that same rut at the bottom of th e hill that I d id in th e firs t 125cc moto," said DeHoop. "I've got to find a better line." At the finish, it was Ferry w ith the win over Cars ten and DeHoop. "I didn' t ge t my 250 sus pensio n back in time from Pro Circuit, so I had to race a 500:' said DeHoop. "Its been over a yea r since I raced an open bike." DeHoop pulled another hol eshot in mo to two ahead o f Hand and Ferr y. Within a lap , Ferry had disp laced Hand and was breathing down DeH oop 's jersey. Ferry over-revved his motor in the slow comers, making su re that DeH oop knew that he was there. Ferry took over within a few laps and motored off to an ea sy win.
