Michels and Sp icer expe rienced no problems for the rest of the race and crossed the fin ish line first with an eight-min u te cushio n over the seca nd-p lace team of Blankens hip an d Leste r. As the lead trio cleared "The Lau ncher, Hutchinso n got back on the ground th e qu ickest and powered by Belknap fo r second . Hutchinson began to close on Hin son. and a lap later he was all over the Honda rider as the two approached the dou ble-d ouble ju mp. Hutchinson dove to the inside and ju mped over and pa st Hin son for the lead. but H inson wasn 't through yet and powered ba ck by fo r the lead o n th e ba ck stra ightway . . Then, H inson bobbled and bo th Hutchin son and Belknap took ad vantage o f it, and Hinson was dropped from first to th ird . With the white nag flying for H inson, Belknap intensified hi s charges a nd for th e e n t ire last lap bumped , pu shed and shoved , a ll withou t success until the final comer before the checkered. when Hinson chose the fast. na t, o utside line and Belkna p took the inside line. Belknap's line a llowed him to cut off Hinson's faster but longer line and take the win. Millan grabbed the mote-two bolesh ot, leading th e a ll-Ho nd a p ack through turn one a nd imm edia tely o pening up a le ad over Belkn ap, Hutchinson and Ferro. Millan bega n the fourth lap in the lead but d ropped o ut when his pipe came loose, and he lost four p ianos wh ile moking re pa irs. Millan rejo ine d the rac e wi th hi s pipe tu cked ba ck into place and qui ckly began to regain lost positions. He hold worked his way back up to se co n d when th e pipe ca me loose once aga in, th en he lost a chain wh ich ended his day. Belknap too k the checkered a lap later with Hu tch inson, Ferro and Hin son followi ng him home. The overall victory honors as we ll as run ne r-up reflected the mo ta wins. as Ferro edged ou t H inson for th ird goi ng 4-3 to Hinson 's 3-4.
