again. It took Cooper three more lap s to run
down Bellamy. This time Cooper stayed on the
bike over the doubl es and flew past Bellamy into
third. Mean whil e, Peters was tirin g in seco nd .
Cooper had little troub le in jumpin g past Peters
over the trip le. As the riders came to the last lap,
Souza enjo ye d too large a lead for Cooper to
catch him. Bellamy, ho wever, was able to move
around Peters over the doubles on the fina l circuit to take third. Souza came home with the win
followed by Cooper a nd Bellamy.
The outcome of the 125cc ma in was de ter mined by some heavy contact between two of the
compe titors. Josh FISher took the lead at the sta rt
followed by Danny Rutherford and Tom Odekirk.
On the second lap, Odeki rk a ttempted to dive in
under Rutherford only to be planted in the infield
grass by hi s fe llo w Honda rid er. Odekirk
remoun ted at the back of the pack and used the
rest of the race to close in on the lead ers. With two
laps to go, Odekirk once again found himself on
Rutherford 's rear fender. In exactly the same corner as before, the two riders tangled again with
both of them tasting the turf. This time, however,
Odeki rk was the first up and gone . At the finish
FISher took the win with Odekirk in second and
Rutherford salvaging third .

announced at the annual AMA Awards Banquet on November 20, and
presented at the Anaheim Supercross on January 22.
his annual award recognizes the Supercross racer who most embodies
the qualities of drive. fan appeal, Irue grit, determi nation,
professionalism, enthusiasm and on and off-track contribulions for the
positive growth of the sport...qualilies preserved in the memory of the late
Mickey Thompson.
nly riders who competed in the 1993 Camel 250cc Supercross Series
are eligible for the award provided annually by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco
Co. The permanent Mickey Thompson Award of Excellence trophy is on
display at the headquarters of Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group.

present, Michels and Spicer knew they had their
wo rk cut out out for them.
The Ho nda- mounted team o f Way ne
McKinney and Pete Rebel had the fastest foot off
the dead engine start. The rest of the field gave
chase in the thick dust on the motocross section
of the 45-mile course.
At the e nd of the first lap Lance Wade,
McKinney , David Kidwell, Whitaker and Spicer
occupied the top five positions. On the second
lap th e ri ders changed, and so did positions.
Michels too k over and ju m p ed in to se con d
p lace. Whe n Spicer took control agai n on the
thi rd lap, he began a charge for the leader.
Sp icer passed Wade to take over first position.
Michels and Spicer experienced no problems for
the res t of the race and crossed the finish line
first with an eight-minute cushion over the second-p lace team of Blankens hip and Lester.
